Simply put, I will give 5 teams and a statement associated with each. You tell me if you are either going to "buy" or "sell" based on this statement. If you "sell" you must give a reason why.
For example:
If I said BELL COUNTY and the statement was "Will be District Champions". The vast majority would say "BUY" and the random few who may believe either Corbin or Wayne County will win the district would say, "SELL, Wayne County will surprise people and their style is catered to pull an upset".
So with that in mind:
BREATHITT COUNTY will go undefeated in the Regular Season.
GARRARD COUNTY will return to the State Semi-Finals in 3A.
HARLAN COUNTY will not be ranked in the Top 5 of their class at any point during the regular season.
MAYFIELD will lose more than 2 games in the Regular Season
HIGHLANDS will not finish the regular season with a record better than 8-2.
Remember, if you "sell" you have to give an explanation why.

Breathitt- Buy. With all they return it would be hard for them not to go undefeated.
Garrard County- Sell. I just dont see it happening again.
Harlan County - Sell. They will be ranked because they already are and there first few games against out of state competetion is weak. They will remain in there for a while.
Mayfield- Buy. Its gonna happen.
Highlands - Sell. Dont let the T scrimmage fool you, at worst they will only lose 1 game during the regular season.

If you think Morristown West is a weak team, you have no idea what you are talking about. They are very good. A tad bit better than Lynn Camp.

BREATHITT COUNTY will go undefeated in the Regular Season.
- SELL: going to Somerset could be the lone loss in the regular season.
GARRARD COUNTY will return to the State Semi-Finals in 3A.
- SELL: this is the year for Bourbon County!!!
HARLAN COUNTY will not be ranked in their class at any point during the regular season.
- SELL: Already ranked in coaches poll, I don't know much about the Tenn. and Virginia school they play, but they thumped them last year so I think they'll be ranked in week 1.
MAYFIELD will lose more than 2 games in the Regular Season
- SELL: I could see Warren Central surprise them in week 1, Tilghman or Murray beating them, but not both.
HIGHLANDS will not finish the regular season with a record better than 8-2.
- BUY: Highlands will not be as good as last year's team. Looking at their schedule they have Boyle County, Scott County, CovCath, and Elder at home, which helps, but all 4 have the depth to keep Highlands from wearing them out. At best, the Birds go 10-0, at worst, 8-2, which is not better that 8-2

How do you expect people to take you serious?
Morristown West is a TN power and is class 5A
Gate City is a perrenial power in VA, multiple state championships
6A Tates Creek
6A Clark
3A Power Bell
4A Knox
The only half weak team is Lee High, Va and they aren't chopped liver.
I would like for you to make a schedule for us Bears to play.

Explain the fact then that Corbin plays GRC and Tates Creek, both 6A. Just as recently as the last cycle M'boro played South Laurel whose enrollment is bigger. I guarantee you they'd both play certain 5A schools if they came calling.

Breathitt Co. BUY (Going to Somerset and Hazard will be tough tests) but they pull them off IMO
Garrard Co. BUY (Garrard plays in BY FAR the weakest region in 3A so a return trip is 100% possible. IMO each other region has 2 team in would place above Garrard, but in there region they are the team to beat)
Harlan Co. BUY
Mayfield BUY
Highlands SELL (I think this could be a transition year for Highlands, haven't looked at there schudule but Boyle could possibily pull the upset first game)

I don't know. I'm not a fan of either program.
However maybe Harlan County hasn't gone calling.
But I have to ask "WHY" Harlan County would want to play two schools that small? That won't help them finally get to where they want to and that is the 5A State Championship game. They should be more concerned with playing some bigger schools in CKY or Eastern KY.

Bell and Knox are on there. They play a 5A school in Tn. They play a 2 6A schools in KY. Who else could they play around here?

Seems a lot of people do....
To be quite honest ive searched and searched for something great to say about MW, but the facts is there not going to be that good this year compared to what there use to. Every article ive found is showing them to be average. The highest ranking ive found for them has been 29th.
Tates Creek might be 6A, but dont let the class fool you. There are a lot of teams in the state in lower classes that would wipe the floor with them.
Clark goes the same way for me. Watch what happens when they play Corbin this week, and if its close at all, or Corbin wins, you might as well say there pretty weak.
Ill give you Bell and Knox. Smart scheduling move on Larkeys part there. Both teams especially Bell are good on a yearly basis and Knox has been over the last 6 or 7 years now. Also, they should be on Harlan Countys schedule. With the proximity and all.
As far as out of district games i think itd help the bears a lot to try and schedule tougher teams inside the mountains and or around lexington that are really tough. It couldnt hurt to face tougher teams to prepare HC for the playoffs, considering this region is pretty weak compared to the rest of the state.
Im not knocking on the schedule, i just stated my opinion, which i have to admit, knew it would grab the attention of a few HC posters.

Dont worry, if all im hearing holds true, Lynn Camp will no longer be on Whitleys schedule which is what ive been hoping for, for years.
I do like the shot at Whitley you took though considering our schedule holds Bell, like you, along with tough Boyle and Somerset teams.

There are over 350 schools that play football in Tennessee and West is ranked a measley 29th. That sounds pretty legit but if we win they are terrible and if we lose we arent that good so we lose either way. I saw them play last season before our game for about 45 minutes and they looked pretty good to an old country boy.
Ive talked to a bunch of people and the Tates Creek game was not selected by HC, we could have been just as easily playing Lexington school because it was selected by the bowl committe.
For anyone questioning why we would play Corbin is crazy because unless Corbin wants to act like they arent relevant then they have been a premier team in the mountains for decades regardless of class, just like others in in the area know. Ive heard they wouldnt do a home and home but only wanted us to play in the bowl.
Also it takes us almost 2 hours to get to a major highway, TN, VA are a whole lot closer. Fuel cost is crazy.

You're living the past about Corbin. The Hounds have not won a state title since 1982. They've played for only 2 state titles since then. 1982 was 30 years ago. They haven't really been relevant in their region but a couple of times in the last 10 years. I know that will offend some but the records don't lie.
Harlan County has something special right now and I think if they could play at least one 5A or 6A contender it would only help prepare them for the tough playoff games ahead. Playing Corbin won't do that.

I think you are being a bit hard on Corbin.
In the past decade they have reached 4 State Semi-Finals and had a State Runner-Up, they reached the Quaterfinals in 8/10 of those seasons. That's a decade most of the 2A/3A size schools in the State would love to have.
With that said, the statement of the HCHS fan of "Premier team in the mountains" is just as much of a stretch. I would consider Corbin a "traditionally strong Mid-Small Class Team".

Breathitt,Co will lose one game at Hazard and maybe Somerset SELL The Cats
Garrard,Co Easy schedule but that will hurt SELL the Lions
Harlan,Cent will not be in the top 5 all season schedule hurts them SELL the Blackbears
Mayfield playes a good schedule to get them ready for the playoffs they will lose 2 games SELL the cards
Highlands will not finish the regular season 8-2 They finish 7-3 and will not win the state championship SELL the Bluebirds. and thats saying alot it got to change sometime a different state champion in 4A.

I think the question I ask is this to gauge Corbin's program right now.
When was the last time they beat: Danville, Belfry, Somerset, Bell, Boyle, NCC or some other programs that are consistently playing for state titles? They are dominated most of those semi-final games by NKY teams if I recall correctly and their path to get to that level is not as difficult as it used to be. (True for most any program with 6 classes competing) I might add they were utterly humiliated in the State Final they reached by a very, very good Breathitt squad.
Maybe I have come down on them too hard but they are not a team that Harlan County will improve their program by playing, let alone demolishing.

I definitely agree with this.
Since 2007 here is what Corbin has done against teams who have won a State Title within the past decade:
Central L 7-62
Bell County L 14-42
Danville L 15-43
Boyle County L 10-42
Hazard L 28-35
LCA W 29-22
NewCath L 8-42
Danville W 31-14
Hazard W 27-7
LCA L 21-41
NewCath L 7-26
Belfry L 0-21
LCA W 47-21
NewCath L 16-28
4-10 record
Those 10 losses were an average defeat of 38-13.
Those 4 Wins Against (3) 1A teams and (1) 2A team.
To Corbin's credit, they do have some wins over some other "good" programs like Pburg, Somerset, Pikeville, and Middlesboro..but by and large there have been no wins to distinguish the Redhounds as an elite team over the past 5 years.
