NCC @ Highlands Frosh Wednesday Sept 19th
#1
NCC back on the Highlands Frosh schedule this year. My prediction is NCC calls the Monday before the game and cancels just like they did in 2010 to avoid injury and embarrassment.

Too bad the varsity teams do not play any more. That was such a good rivalry when I was in high school in the early 1980's. It was even bigger than Cov Cath because there were so many kids from Ft Thomas going to NCC.

Didn't go to either school but there was some classic battles and had the priviledge to see some of them. Seem like NC always gave them a fight.

The fight was at McDonald's after the game. Highlands easily won those too.

I remember the 1965 game at Highlands. NewCath (back when it was still "Stud Hill," girls went to OLP) won the game 12-0. NewCath had running back named Ed Zeigler and Coach Frederick. Highlands was coached by Owen Hauck. I seem to recall that some of the NewCath fans were headed for the game as we were getting out of school. Newport Catholic and Highlands had not played for since 1950 (15 years) and did not play again until 1974 (9 years).

That was the first year that Highlands did NOT make the playoffs (started in 1959) in Class AA. NewCath went to the playoffs and lost at Middlesboro in the semifinal. Hopkinsville won the championship that year.

As another part of the history:

KY had three classes back in those days.
Class A was the smaller schools outside Jefferson County plus a small Jefferson County school (a military academy).
Class AA was the larger schools outside of Jefferson County.
Class AAA was the rest of the schools in Jefferson County.
This setup lasted thru the 1974 season when KY went to 4 classes.

Teams made the playoffs using what was called the Dickinson System where a team got more points for beating team with a winning record and fewer points for beating a team with a non-winning record.

Each of Class A and AA had 4 regions. Each Region, except Class AA region 3, had two districts. Class AA Region 3 only had one district, which contained Highlands, NewCath, Holmes, Dixie Hts, Simon Kenton, McKell, Boone Co., Campbell Co. etc. Class AAA had only had two regions, Louisville city schools and Jefferson county schools (they were separate school districts until 1975). In 1960, the Class AAA state championship game was played so late (after Male vs Manual Thanksgiving day game) that Eastern forfeited to Male and settled for the County championship.

Expect a cancellation. NCC Frosh has been on the Camels schedule the last four years, and it has yet to be played!

That was the PC incorrect term that I remember being used in the late 70s through the 80s at HHS to refer to NCC.

BTW the varsity record of HHS against NCC according to the Bird's Word website is 22 to 7 for a 75.9% winning percentage. So Lefty, there were some NCC wins.

Or...they had the small school Championship scheduled the same week.

Ncc was a formidable opponent until the late 80's. Now they are not, but seem to think they are. My prediction is the place ceases to exist by 2022 or sooner. They have to enlist middle school students to fill out their teams now.

Just like HHS has to enlist outside help to to win state championships. :eyeroll: Will Dale still scrimmage Trinity? After this years debacle, I think not. Gotta keep Mason Co. and Lou. Western on the schedule though.

Look for Trinity on the regular season schedule next year. Why you hopping on Trinity's sack Hopsack24? Is your team that bad? Mason Co and Lou Western would beat your boys.

Once again, if you have evidence of recruiting violations, call KHSAA. What out of state help? Provide the evidence.

I am sure that when the contract ends this year with Mason County or Louisville Western, HHS would love to schedule NCC. A lot closer to travel to and a lot more interesting opponent.

With regard to the Trinity scrimmage, it would not surprise me if that continued. Why do you think it would not? So you get beat bad. Seems to me to be a good learning experience.
