It was a great game, but primarily because it was so close. Exciting and fun game ? yes. Well played game ? No.
While there were some isolated good plays, the game was a horror on the defensive side of the ball. Arm tackling everywhere. Also, wayyyy too many penalties.

Just so everyone understands the visitor locker room is in school just outside the gym witch is under construction and closed, and as for walking at SC I always have had to park on the shoulder of the highway then pay to get in and stand on sideline. So.......really Great game way to play Blackcats

Heck of a game from Adam Griffith looked a whole lot like his brother Alex back a few years ago with around 20 tackles and throw in an 89 TD reception. Williams and Anderson were also solid for the Blackcats! Hats off to Tyler O'Conner, he was absolutely unstoppable he was a man among boys lastnight

Tough game for either team to lose. The way P'burg kept clawing the whole game was a testimony to this young teams toughness. SC on the other hand was impressive especially the 2 freshmen (Workman & Butcher I think). Wow the future at SC is bright. Last play was close. I thought he was in personally but SC still had 3 more yards to even tie the game. With all the flags P'burg had (I bet near 300 yds) they still get a W. if they want to continue to win I suggest they try to cut down on the 5 personal fouls.

Prestonsburg has found a way to win their first two games, last years team didnt seem to be able to do that...They have had a little luck on their side and thats ok..Good teams find a way to win..Prestonsburg must play a full 4 quarters and find a way to stop the run or their luck will run out against Belfry and Hazard, both games being on the road.

slingblade93 Wrote:Wow, imagine a great game ruined by the classless people of the Prestonsburg Blackcats. Not only did they not allow SCHS to dress at their field but a truely classless Dave Butcher had to try and add salt to a wound and lock the gate at the end of the field, and say it was a rule, only to allow them to leave after a heated exchange. Prestonburg fans don't be surprised if you have to park miles down the road when you come to our place. Looks like Sheldon Clarks future is bright, with Butcher and workman and many others. Tyler O'Conner may be the hardest runner in the region.
The gym & it's locker rooms in which the visitors have always changed into there uniforms is under construction & closed to all. Our volleyball team has been forced to play their home games at the grade school. Practice is not even allowed in the gym.
The reason the gate to the field was locked is to keep everyone who does not belong on the field off the field. It looked to me that he had a hundred keys to fumble through to get the correct one to let you out.

If you where missing a football i'm sure it was an honest mistake. I'm sure if you ask for it at the end of the game you would have received it.

Unless you where on the goal line on the opposite side of the field where the play occured you could not make this call.
The Blackcats took this game. Cards give up 35 points in the 2nd half. Not to mention even if he does get in you where a 2 point conversion away from a tie & possibly OT it they held the Blackcats which they did not do in the 2nd half at all.
CardinalAlum Wrote:This was a war sad that the ref had to take it away from the kids on that bad call at the end of the game. Good game tonight cards keep your heads up and get ready for next week.
You guys really want to talk about officiating when the time before last we beat you on your own field & WYMT Sports OT was even talking about the 2 phantom touchdowns you had. :hilarious:
slingblade93 Wrote:Just what I thought, Blackcat Nation knows they stole one, so they are not on here crowing about their great win. NO CLASS
CAW, CAW, CAW what a great win for the Blackcat Nation. We took control of this game in the 2nd half & never looked back.
Great game played by the Cardinals. They look to be a much improved team from the past 2 seasons. Good luck to you on the season.
If the Blackcats dont learn to play in the 1st half come next week they will be in for a rude awakening. Pond Creek Nation will be ready & are deep enough to not run out of gas in the 2nd half to close out the game.

Prestonsburg has an excellent young QB from what I saw in the televised game against Perry Central. As I was listening to the call of that game, it sounded like lots of nice young talent on the field for Pburg.
Still, an 8 point win over Sheldon Clark seems to signal this will be a year for Prestonsburg to build momentum for upcoming seasons.

Absolutely...
And what looks to be a pretty good offense will need to carry the team until the defensive front learn how to shed blocks and position themselves correctly. Pursuit is fine, but the defensive player responsible at the point of attack MUST learn how to man-up and slow the ball carrier until he gets help.
The most important defensive player vs. a given play isn't usually the one who makes the tackle. It's the player who forces the ball carrier slow up to look for a new hole. You have to attack the blocking, not simply stand in place and watch for the ball.

âRelax, all right? Donât try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, theyâre fascist. Throw some ground balls â itâs more democratic.â

Could not agree more.
There have been many times where a Blackcat defender has reached the ball carrier in the backfield, but they've failed to make the the tackle. I realize that you can't make every tackle that you have the chance to make. But when 2-3 defenders get their hands on the ball carrier and still fail to tackle him, you have some problems.
This tackling and block shedding problem is an issue that can be fixed in due time.
