Knox Central Grad Opens College Career Thursday Night
#1
Seems like yesterday I was watching KC get waxed every game and finishing 0-10 or somewhere close. Then Dave King and Steve Bailey brought Jr Football to Knox County. We got slaughtered, alot. Over time we got great and went undefeated. And Coach Mills showed up with some good training from Bell. And he had Coach Russell. Football had arrived.

Codi Diamond grew up in all that football. Thanks to Coach Mills, Coach Russell, all the great teams and players he faced, and the whole football family here in the mountains he is opening his college football career Thursday at 7 pm at the Carson Newman field. Consider yourself invited.

He will be one of the few Freshmen getting reps during the game on a team that dresses over 100 for home contests. He has been selected for the travel team and has been floating between 2 and 3 on the depth chart as a DT. His butt is sore from getting knocked down so many times through a tough camp and facing competition that is nearly always better than him at this point. But he has gotten better as a player and a person as a result.

Over the next few years I'm confident KC will put more and more players at the next level. I sure look forward to seeing that.

Thanks for your kind words. KC has become a football family for sure. And I know that is the case all over the state where football programs become a source of encouragement and structure for so many young men. I treasure my memories of every Friday night I spent supporting them and look forward to many more over the years.

He is attending Carson Newman in Jefferson City, TN. That is 2 hours from Barbourville and about 30 minutes east of Knoxville. They are NCAA D2. Their head coach, Ken Sparks is the winningest coach in D2 history and 11th all time. Career win 300 is on the line Thursday night.

Please keep Coach Sparks in your prayers as he continues to recover from Prostate cancer. He is a Christian leader who has helped countless young men over the years come to know Christ and follow Him.
