With CM Punk now over one year into his historic WWE title reign, f4wonline.com reports that one of the main reasons Punk has held on to the championship for so long has to do with The Rock.


There have been several instances over the past year when WWE has strongly considered having Punk drop the title. However, Vince McMahon has repeatedly stuck with Punk as champion because The Rock agreed to wrestle CM Punk for the WWE Championship during the summer.


The Rock announced at RAW 1,000 that he wants to win the WWE Championship one more time before he retires. Since then, The Rock and CM Punk have been exchanging trash talk on Twitter and the feeling is that The Rock would not be happy if Punk dropped the belt and his WWE title match was against someone else.

It appears that Punk will retain the title until at least the Royal Rumble

^ I'm pretty sure the plan was for him to lose it to the Rock and then have the Rock lose it to Cena at WM.

^ Could do it. But If they face each other at Royal Rumble I don't see Rock losing to Punk especially since he's wanting the title one last time before he retires.

What better way to find out two Wrestlemania Opponents then for the Rock to win the title at RR and Cena win the RR Match and as Cena is celebrating have The Rock come out and have a stare down as the show goes off

I believe Punk has been a good champion. I do not know if the WWE universe could handle an 18 month reign. At Rumble, it is time to drop it.

I agree, long reigning champions are a lost art in today's wrestling.
