Drunk driving is no laughing matter. However, there are times where people get DUIs in the strangest ways when they are really being a harm to no one other than themselves. There have been people that receive DUIs on their riding lawn mowers, pedal bikes, horse and buggy and scooters, and you canât help but shake your head or crack a smile when you read the details of the stories.
Add Florida Gators walk-on punter Gran Van Aman to that list.
On Saturday, Van Aman was booked for a DUI after being pulled over on the 1200 block of Southwest 8th Avenue in Gainesville, Florida while riding his red scooter.
From OnlyGators.com:
Van Aman cut off the officer, who happened to be at the scene, when he missed the stop sign, forcing the officer to suddenly âhit the breaksâ on his car to avoid an accident. Van Aman then âjerked the handle bars on his scooter causing it to swerve and almost lose control.â The officer noticed âa very strong odor of alcoholic beveragesâ on Van Aman, describing his eyes as âwatery, blood shot and extremely dilatedâ and his face as âflush and pale.â Furthermore, Van Aman was slurring his speech and mumbling his words, which led the officer to conduct a DUI investigation.
At the reports last update, Van Aman was still behind bars at Alachua County Jail.
The Florida Gators have not yet issued a public statement on the incident, so we donât know whether or not he will face punishment.
If we had to make an educated guess, Van Amanâs punishment would likely be handled internally.
