Best QB in the Mountains in '07
#61
Hit and Run Wrote:Alright, I realize you are a South fan, and hate anything that breathes in Clay County, but if you haven't noticed Zach is well on track to break Couch's record. I assume you have never watched him throw, becuase he can get one much farther than 40 yards. Zach had a very impressive showing at the Air7 QBU camp in Pittsburgh recently. I think only 48 QB's from around the nation were invited and he was the only kid from Kentucky.

ive watched him play quite a bit actually since i dont go to the south road games i make it to a few clay home games. Lewis cant get the ball from one sideline to the other in warmups and thats around what 53 yards? Air7 QBU is not an invite only camp, its open registration for high school QB's as well as youth QB's along with WR's. he wasnt the only KY QB there either, Tony Guidugli was there, if im not mistaken hes the brother of former cincy QB Gino? but Air7 QBU is not that impressive, they have it all summer in different cities, if you have a spare $700 you can go.

im not nocking him in any way, he is a very capable high school quarterback but i think he is a bit over rated since he never seems to get the job done against competition.

I Rule The World Wrote:Did you ever see Tim Couch play in high school? Tim Couch could hit the cross bar of the goal post from the 50 yd line all day long. So if he just slung it, he could have threw it over 70 or 80 yds in high school. Just threw too many balls between high school and college and his arm just gave out. That and getting sacked a billion times in Cleveland. We won't see another guy like that around here for a long time. 6'5 1/2 230 in high school.

i was going by what couch said after he threw that 50 yard game winning touchdown while at cleveland, afterwards he said that pass was about his max.
Couch was a once in a life time player out of the mountains, everything lined up perfect for the guy all the way throught high school and uk. thats will be one of the knocks on lewis, even if he does break couch's state records, he still doesnt have the size and is somewhat slow footed. At the time couch set those records wasnt some of them national records? sorry for bringin this post back up from like december guys im new on here and was readin through last night.

Guys...JK Ratliff will be something to watch next year. Dont be surprised if he garners some interest from the home state UK Wildcats.

wheres he from? does he have the size and speed to compete at the D1 level? unfortunately stats alone dont do it in the mountains. ill be pullin for him if he is a legit talent.

Johnson Central...I know that UK came and talked to Sheldon Clark running back Adam Dials last week, and it wouldnt surprise me one bit if they first stopped off at JC to check out JK Ratliff and Nathaniel Dials(lineman)

sounds good, how big is he? size and speed is lacked by most qb's in east ky. will grimm be getting any college attention?

I'm not going to give you any sizes or times cause I have no clue and people will go nutts on me. But, I did see him at the Prom last week and the kid has gotten bigger and thicker. He IMO already has the size, I'm guessing 6'3" or 6'4".

JK Ratliff was visited by UK last week, Steve Ortmayer stopped by. He told JK that UK was VERY interested in him and they talked about UK's Summer camps that JK plans to attend. JK has already been to the Elite 11 QB camp at Georgia Tech Univ. on Apreil 20 (invitees only) and also attended the Nike Skill camp at the Univ. of Georgia on April 21. They told him that he had a very strong arm and that he did some very impressive things. His footwork has improved and I would bet that he has chopped off at least a couple of seconds off of his 40 time. He is alot more mobile than last year and keeps improving. Rob Gidel that is with kentuckysportsreport.com and travels all over the place talking with kids and interviewing them, has said that JK has and I QUOTE, "the strongest arm in the State of Ky!" He told me that in a phone interview. He is getting interest from UK, Marshall, EKU, Army and several other schools, as well as NAIA schools. He has attended 2 (two) UK Junior day events and has met with the staff and Joker Phillips speaks highly of him. JK also plans on attending several other camps such as Louisville's QB camp. Go to the catspause.com and go to the house of blues to see an article on JK Ratliff by Jeff Drummond of TCP and he is listed both on Rivals.com and Scouts.com. Also, UK is definetly interested in Nathanial Dials and so is Auburn, Louisville, Marshall and other schools. Nathanial has also attended 2 UK Junior days along with JK Ratliff and has attended either the UK blue/white scrimmage or Marshall's spring scrimmage (both on the same day, so not sure which one he went to).

In my opinion Zach will be the best QB in the mountains next year and the year after, and when he graduates he will be the leading passer to ever play high school football in Kentucky. If Lewis had any athletes at the receiver spot he would be one of the best QB's in the nation. Since you watch Clay County quite often answer this for me. How many drops have u seen his receivers make? How many times do his receivers run the wrong route? They do this a lot. I think it might change this year because Dobbs and Dunn have both worked really hard in the offseason. Chris Gilbert will be great, and with the return of Kevin Marcum, Zach could put up more yards this year than anyone could imagine.

Zack Lewis Clay Co. QB
06-3,547 yards
05-3,171 yards
Looks pretty good to me.

The kid can play, and I think there are several good players at the QB position in the Eastern part of the state. I think that the kid from Breathitt County will open some eyes this year, if he has the WR's that can catch the ball consistantly this year.

absolutely agree with their bad route running, but they still work simply because clay was usually playing some small 1A school. the receivers were better athletes than what clay was playing. if you put lewis on a team loaded with athletes doesnt mean he would be one of the best QB's in the nation. if you watch any of the game film of tebow or clausen in high school you would agree that no one in the mountains is on their level, they are head and shoulders better than any mountain qb, so to say lewis would be one of the best in the nation is a little off.
