How good is Ashland this year? Does Russell have a chance in the Kiwanis bowl? I'm not sure of the records of either team but Russell beat Raceland in 18-12 in overtime tonight. I used to be able to see all the Ashland scores on ihigh before they shut down.
Maybe sombody can give the records for both teams?

I expect Ashland to win. That said, our freshman coaches (and JV too) don't seem very big on playing for the win, especially in the first half of these games. Seems like early they focus on what they want to work on that week, and then maybe in the second half make adjustments. I think the Kiwanis Bowl (like usual) will be a lot more like a "real" game.

Greenup kicked our butts, especially in the trenches. Game wasn't even that close, though we played a little better in the second half. Future looks bright in GC, especially if they can minimize the athletes quitting football for baseball, etc.

I know Zero about what Russell has. I do know they have a nice backfield. One linemans name always comes up in conversation but cannot for the life of me remember it. Landon Duvall did score against Lewis the other night with a nice run. That's about all I got. Lol

These are some Russell Freshman scores that I know of this year...
Lost to Greenup Co., 22-14
Defeated Boyd Co., 6-0
Lost to Wheelersburg, 49-0
Lost to Spring Valley, 30-0
Defeated Raceland, 18-12(OT)
2-3, outscored 113-38
They're down a bit from the last few years, but winning a fourth consecutive Kiwanis Bowl would salvage a sub-par season. I think they play Bath County's freshman next week to finish out the year.
Based on what I've seen(which is admittedly very little), Russell has a good looking QB(Wilburn), a big WR that looks more like a TE(Sparks), and a couple of good OL(Belcher and Jenkins, I think). Jenkins has good size for a freshman. Outside of Sparks, the rest of the WRs and pretty much all of the RBs are a little undersized. Like DevilWatcher said, Duvall had 2 touchdowns against Lewis on Friday including a really nice 19 yarder for the games final score.

Some Ashland Freshman scores...
Beat Raceland, 28-0
Beat Lawrence Co., 16-8
Lost to Greenup Co., 28-14
Hopefully it's a good game. A really good appetizer for the Putnam crowd before the main course against JC on Friday.

You can't ever compare scores in this type of game. I played in this game an you can go ahead and throw the records out the window. If both teams skill wise are even the game will come down to field position and turnovers.

I'm a homer, so I'll take the Devils by 6

The Russell/ Bath County freshman game will be a good measuring stick for the district to come. Bath Co's freshmen are 3-1 on the season with wins over Montgomery Co, Fleming Co, and Western Hills all on the road.
