Butler 85 Morehead State 69
#1
INDIANAPOLIS – For most of one half, Butler looked like another home favorite from a major basketball conference sputtering to put away a 22-point underdog.

Kelan Martin made sure that was not going to happen.

The senior scored 16 consecutive Butler points in an 8-minute stretch bridging the halves, and the Bulldogs sank seven second-half 3-pointers to pull away from Morehead State 85-69 Tuesday night.

The outcome raised the Bulldogs’ Hinkle Fieldhouse record to 7-0 and extended their nonleague home winning streak to 42, third-longest in the nation. They shot 62.5 percent in a 52-point second half and 54 percent on 3s.

Martin finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, four assists (tying a career high) and three steals.

Paul Jorgensen added 16 points, all in the second half, to tie his career high. Also in double figures for Butler (9-3): Tyler Wideman with 15, Kamar Baldwin with 12, Nate Fowler with 11.

Djimon Henson, a sophomore from Lawrence North High School, led Morehead State (4-7) with 22 points. He was 5-of-11 on 3s.

His successive 3-pointers late in the first half pulled the Eagles within 29-25. Morehead got as close as 29-28 but trailed in the second half by 26.
