The Prestonsburg Blackcats 2-4 (1-0) will be traveling to Pike County to take on the Shelby Valley Wildcats 4-2 (0-1) in a district matchup.
The Blackcats are coming off of a huge confidence boosting win over East Ridge and are looking to come into this one to upset a pretty good Valley team. The Blackcats have seemingly gotten better in each game they played, which is a sign of a developing team. I really like the multitude of different formations the Blackcats have shown with each and every game on offense. I'm a fan of when we spread to run, and let our QB #10 Slone read the defense and react properly. We've got a great young RB in #44 Akers who has shown patience while hitting the hole and also a burst through it!
The Wildcats lost last week to a West Carter team that I thought they would've played better against. I've not been able to watch much film yet on them, but it looks to be a team that relies a lot on the QB #4 Meade for the vast majority of their production. #35 Keathley seems to be an animal from what I can tell, and #7 Hinkle looks to be a sound tackler as well.
The good news for them is that a running QB has been the Blackcats Achille's heel on the season.
No doubt in my mind though, that Coach Brewer will have our young men fired up and ready to play!
I'm hoping for a good, competitive, injury-free game!

I would say Valley is the solid favorite in this one, as it seems PBurg is still rebuilding. That said, Valley had problems finishing off drives with points against West Carter. If PBurg's defense is able to make key stops, this game could end up being closer than expected.
I'll say Valley by 2 scores.

Very much still rebuilding. My big concern is keeping Meade in the pocket. Idk if the Blackcats will or not, but I'd run a spy on him all night. If we were somehow able to slow him down, then I think it would be a close game.
PBurg also can't turn it over like they did in the first 5 games. In their defense, they did protect the ball better against East Ridge (outside of a muffed punt that we were fortunate to recover)

Just hoping for a competitive game from the Blackcats. Iâm not sure what SV has this year, but I was at last years game and SV was much bigger and much more physical than Prestonsburg and they done whatever they pleased that night.
If the Blackcats can force some turnovers and put up some points in the first half then theyâve got a chance. Just have to come out inspired and play clean. Canât turn the ball over and you canât play behind the sticks all night. Get up field and make plays.
Best of luck to both... Go Blackcats!!!
