FOXSports.com Reporter Slams G-Town, KY
#1
In covering the Bengals at training camp in Georgetown, Jay Glazer, a senior writer for FOXSports.com and MSN had this to say about Kentucky.

Yes, it's not a typo, I'm in Kentucky: They said I'd never, ever step foot in Georgetown. I've often joked around that I would never go, being that I'm an ethnic New Yawka and I'd stick out worse than Joe Pesci would, or actually did, in "My Cousin Vinny." I mean, I'm a complete dead giveaway for someone who, well, isn't from Kentucky.

Just as the folks from small towns like this have certain preconceived notions about the Big Apple and loud, arrogant, obnoxious, aggressive folks like myself, I've seen things on TV about how city boys and country folk don't exactly mix.

Sorry, Georgetown but there was nothing to change my view in the least.

First of all, it's in a dry county. Why is there anywhere in America that is dry? Let's get real people. Not selling alcohol in one area is the dumbest thing in the world. You know what it does? It forces you to travel long distances to the next county to get drunk and then drive aaaaalllll the way back to Georgetown. How stupid is this rule? It also leads to the freaking hillbilly who was selling moonshine out of the back of his truck. Did I just say moonshine? Did I just say hillbilly? Folks, I'm not making this stuff up.

There are actually people who still sell moonshine in Kentucky and there was a guy giving it out from the back of his pickup the weekend I was there.

How do I say this gracefully and without half of Kentucky wanting to hang me by my you know whats? Let's be honest, parts of Kentucky don't exactly have a reputation for hording the members of MENSA or the contestants for the National Spelling Bee. With that in mind, I'm begging the folks in the Georgetown area to hire a full-time scout to walk around the town and correct grammar and spelling in order to dispel the myths.

The two best signs in America are both in Georgetown. First one hung in a WalMart that read, "All movies needs to be pay in electronics." Huh? You is a honor student? Didn't, oh, I don't know, ONE PERSON realize that sentence simply isn't English?

Then, I didn't see this sign but I heard about it, the local Wendy's originally had their big sign out front say, "Now hiring closers." However, the "c" in closers fell off so for a while Wendy's was "Now hiring losers." Nice.

And he goes on to attack Lexington bar called "the pub"...

Idiot.... After reading the article, I can say that he has a real passion for reporting non-sports related issues. Nice article douche bag.

Guys, I recommend everyone go here and send complaints to Fox Sports.

My complaint through that site:
Quote:You need to fire that Glazer guy immediately. You can go anywhere and find stereotypes about a certain type of people. He gave us all in Kentucky a bad name. There's KKK centers all over the Deep South, so why doesn't he write about how they're all "hillbilly" racists? San Francisco is known for having a lot of homosexuals, why doesn't he write about the whole state being gay? More than all of that, whoever said that his lifestyle was so great and admirable that it gives him a right to criticize other people's lifestyles? When did God or anyone give him the right to judge and label an entire state and part of theeir culture? I live in Northern Kentucky, which is very Urban, but I still live in Kentucky, and I'm proud of it. Glazer's as bad as a racist, and if he had made that comment about a different race, he'd be fire and his status as a respectable man would be taken from him, and that's what should be done here.

Didn't there used to be another thread on this topic? I had posted on it last night, but the thread has since disappeared. Oh well, maybe I was just half-asleep and imagined it...

Anyway, I would like to say that this article was a piece of garbage and showed nothing in the way of writing talent. I don't know why this person even has a job.

Well put. I wonder if there was any backlash from other people outside of Kentucky?

Why are we all so upset? If closed minded idiots from the north like this guy actually saw what a great place to live this state is he and his kind would move here in droves. Im glad he and those think like him hate this place, that means theyll stay away.

BFritz...Solid post and comment dude!!! Good stuff...

Yes, there was another thread on this exact topic but it was deleted due to it not having a link to the source.

Sorry, but we have to do that for copyright reasons.

Yeah I posted it but I never posted the link because I wanted everyone to read his article before it had the chance to be deleted after all the feedback they were getting on the page. I sent a page long e-mail to MSN on the topic talking about how Imus offended about 25 people without mentioning any names about the Rutgers women's basketball program and he got canned, so I recommended the same actions be taken towards him because he talked poorly about a whole state. I have yet to get a response from MSN about my opinion. If I ever get any type of statement back I will be sure to post it.

Well, this simply proves that even if you don't actually live in the hills of Kentucky, the folks in other places will still lump everyone into the "hillbilly" catagory.
I also agree with bfritz and hail pikeville.... We don't want any of those folks to know anything other than their pre-conceived notions.... because if they came here, we'd have to either run 'em off (time consuming and a pain in the butt) or deal with them... and no one truly wants to do that, no matter how much money they bring into the community!

I didn't know Fox sports hired alcoholics. Thats what he obviously is because seems like his number 1 priority was finding a drink. His idiocy is only surpassed by his ignorance.

That's cool. I didn't start the thread, I had just posted on it, but I was wondering if I had just imagined it all. Anyway, all I had posted was what I said on this thread, which just that this Glazer guy is trash and so is his writing.
