Somerset at Prestonsburg 11/22
#31
I admire the turnaround season Prestonsburg displayed, and it definitely shows promise for next year. This game can be a learning experience moving forward into 2025.

Once again, I don't understand where all of this state title talk is coming from. I don't know of any one in Prestonsburg who believes the Blackcats are a title contender. We are just enthused to be playing for a regional championship Friday night. It's been a "hell of a ride" this year, and everyone is buying back into the program and Coach Hager. This town is a football town, and most people have realistic expectations of this team. Like a lot of people have said, this is a team who most thought, including myself, that would only win two or three games this year! The excitement is back and that is something that has been missing over the past decade.

I think everyone knows it will be an uphill battle Friday when the Briar jumpers come to town. Somerset is a very good football team, and to be honest, I will be thrilled if we can keep it within four scores. We have some injuries on the line that will really hurt us this game, and we aren't as deep and talented as Somerset. Regardless of the outcome, these boys have put Prestonsburg back on the map and have laid the foundation to future success. I really do believe we are turning the corner, and with only losing two starters, next season could be special. It's a good time to be a Blackcat!

Hate is intense dislike. Intense dislike goes towards programs like Pikeville, Corbin, Bell, JC… Nobody hates prestonsburg.

I don’t know what the word would be, but it’s not hate. Stating that a State championship in the current 2A, and especially in the future for Pburg is NOT A CHANCE IN HELL is just fact. Going 11-1 and soon to be 11-2 is a hell of a season and turn around And it sounds like they will only improve. However, they are still 35 points behind the B tier of 2A, and 50 plus behind the A tier.

Breathitt county beat prestonsburg by 4 touchdowns. Breathitt was just beat by beechwood by 4 touchdowns. And here’s 4 teams in this state at the level of beechwood. Somerset is B tier of this class, prestonsburg can work hard in the offseason maybe to get to B tier, but they are still slightly behind. It’s not hate to look at facts. Fact is prestonsburg winning this week would be a miracle, and then the next week would be the great impossible task. Not a chance in france Prestonburg beats Owensboro Catholic or even keeps 60 off the board.

I don't know that I would call this thread hate, they are about to play a very good Somerset team and I feel like the majority of the folks on here have given props to their season this year. I think it comes to an end this Friday, but I hope I'm wrong. Would love to see Wes go to the semi-finals in year one, just don't think it'll be this year. I'm not big on moral victories, but contrary to what people thought over the summer, this team has more than exceeded expectations and a spot in a region title game for them alone is MASSIVE. Best of luck this Friday!

P-Burg has had a great season no denying it. They have not played a tough schedule but they are young and I can see wanting to get them experience. Based on both of these teams playing Breathitt and P-burg losing big and Somerset winning big I think Somerset wins this game. It may not be a blow out but I don't see it being in question. But I also hope that I am wrong because I would love to see a big upset by P-Burg here. But I don't think it happens. And I would like to see them schedule some tougher opponents next year so they will be ready for these types of moments. Good luck to both teams and I hope it is an injury free game.

I also think next year may be a little difficult for the burg with Belfry going back to 2A but they have really had a good year and definitely play above expectations and it’s good to see and I for one would love to see them win Friday night but being realistic I think this will be their last game no you young black cars prove me wrong

Everybody keeps talking about a upset but according to RPI Somerset is the underdog pBerg is home field in the 3rd round Somerset has to travel 2.5 hours away they are clearly the underdog !

Prestonsburg has had a really good season, but tonight is going to prevent it from being a great season. Somerset has the tradition and the experienced coaching to go on the road and win.

Buddy are you delusional. What kind of nonsense are you talking right now? Prestonsburg got smacked in the mouth by a real team. What makes you think they will even come close to Somerset. They will be lucky to get on the board.

Pburg has had a great season and Hager has did an other worldly job.....BUTTTTT let's be honest, mountain 2A football is atrocious this year. Pbrug is not at all a good football team from a state wide perspective. This wont be very close. That being said pbrug fans and players shouldn't be a bit upset about it, the rise they had this year was great. The town was back behind the program it was good to see

Been a heckuva year for Prestonsburg! I’ve said many times.. hats off to Wes Hager, his staff and the players who have played their butts off. Majorly overachieved and have brought the program out of the pit of death.

With that being said… we are nowhere near the level of Somerset yet. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know football. It’ll be a running clock quickly and Pburg will be fortunate to get some points on the board. Hope they prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

Btw I love all the Prestonsburg hate!

What is the next step for Prestonsburg? Even if they lose tonight they finish 11-2 and hosted a regional final. How do they get on the state level as a legitimate contender in 2A? With the success they had this year you know comes higher expectations

There were no expectations this year other than 1 or 2 wins. I’m tickled pink that we can lineup with our shoes tied and run a play. No one outside of Prestonsburg understands how down this program was.

As far as going forward, I hope we can keep our talent in Prestonsburg, get our youth and feeder programs on the same page, and coach ‘em up. I guess that’s the recipe for every team that wants to take the “next step”. I’m fine with trying to win the district and having a winning record next year. We just got ahead of schedule this year thank God. Years away from competing on a state level.

Watching the games this year, I’m not so sure Prestonsburg got much better compared to last year, I think everyone else on their schedule took a major drop and they stayed pretty consistent.

still been a great year for the Blackcats and I’ve ate crow the whole time. Were about to see them play a real football team and we can see how it goes.
