Pike Central names Al Hollands Head Coach

Good hire!

Tremendous hire!

Wow. Great hire. I guess the grapevine had good info this time. Wouldn’t have thought he would make this move, but the family angle makes it make sense.

Does this leave Derrick Newsome out of coaching for now? I really think he knows the game, but he just doesn’t maintain relationships with players.

If I’m Holland, first call I make to fill a hole in my staff is Cameron Smith and I’d call him TONIGHT. Snag him before someone else gobbles him up. That would be a masterful duo.

On paper this is a great hire.  But with today’s environment there will be so much movement with players bouncing around like they have NIL deals.  Hopefully, we can keep our core players and meet with coaches Holland.  I’d love to see PC win a 15th Region title more than anything.

Anyone know a connection between principal Jeremy Hall and Derrick?

I’m thinking Jeremy was an assistant principal at BL for atleast a year whike Derrick was there. Jeremy is from the AC area. Derrick does a good job, but comes with a lot of baggage. The type of baggage that would be known by former admin like Jeremy that most are unaware of. Jeremy loves sports, there’s little doubt that he will focus on making the right hires for the sports programs. I believe he will hire based on both integrity and what’s best for the success of the given sport.

What kind of baggage?

As far as Holland goes, I hope this works out for he and Pike Central. He certainly has the credentials with the what, 11 region titles? I hope it works out better than when they hired Johnny Martin. I thought he was going to be there for a while, but only lasted a season.

Great hire! Now get Coach Smith!

I think Holland is a great hire for PC. What I wonder is how he will deal with the board member that is the cheer coach. Basketball team used North Point for practice last year is what I was told. Cheerleaders have the gym during and afterschool for a few hours every night there isn’t a game.

I’m not sure your source knows what they’re talking about. There is a schedule made by the AD that each sport adheres to. The cheer team does not have a monopoly on PC’s gym. LOL! If they had to use NP, it’s probably because of some type of extenuating circumstance.

The AD might make the schedule but cheer team had the gym every day after school this past basketball season 100%. Boys practiced at North Point a ton this past season because of this. This is 100% facts !! Just ask any staff member or player.

You’re hilarious!  I know for a fact they didn’t have it everyday after school. They had it either 4:30-6:30 or 6:30-8:30. Try again!

So you just agreed with me. 50% of the time boys and girls basketball had to either go to north point after school or practice late. The other 50% boys or girls got the gym after school and the other had to go to North point or not practice. Would someone else in the 15th region or any other region chime in and tell me if it’s the same way at their school????? Maybe someone from Pikeville as good as their cheerleaders are I’d about bet that they don’t get the gym over the girls and boys basketball teams after school. Is what it is and that’s why the sports on the hill are what they are. Maybe the AD values the cheerleaders more than the other sports. That’s his choice!!

No. Never agreed. The ball teams have 8th period conditioning which have them practicing 2:30-4:30. Then the other 2 sports rotated 4:30 and 6:30 slots. Cheer NEVER had the 2:30-4:30 slot. You get also never practiced on Wednesdays at all unless one of the teams had a game and practiced multiple Saturdays and all Sundays. So, I’m not sure where you’re getting that they used it everyday, right after school, during the week. At PC, cheer is definitely not valued over any other sport there. Cheer has had their fair share of practices at NP. It kinda sounds like you must not like the AD or have some sort of issues with him. I cannot speak for Pikeville, but I know they utilize the multiple gyms they have access to, as does PC cheer.

Cheerleaders rarely ever got practice after school. Girls basketball and boys basketball alternated days and practiced 8th period which was at around 2:30 and practice ended at 4:30.
So one day, it could’ve been Girls practice 2:30-4:30, Cheer 4:30-6:30 and Boys 6:30-8:30.
Next day could be Boys 2:30-4:30, Girls 4:30-6:30, and cheer 6:30-8:30.
Please don’t comment if you don’t know the schedule or what you’re even talking about.

So they practiced during school hours and all boys and girls basketball players had 8th period Gym?? Not true but whatever Boys practiced at North Point a ton last year because of late gym time schedule and that’s the truth. PC will never get better until a change is made at the top in any of the sports and that’s facts!!!! But defend until the end but results show different and you can’t argue that. I’m out wish Holland well he is a great coach but he has an uphill battle with the AD and parents wanting to do it there way.

I was always told that if I don’t know what I’m talking about then I need to keep my mouth shut. The only sports that does not have eighth period conditioning is cheer and volleyball. However, you seem to know everything and know all the ins and outs of Pike Central sports. However, when it boils down to it, you are as clueless as the next person that wants to be relevant! As a matter of fact, cheer used Northpoint twice as many times as either the boys or girls basketball teams did.

I would love to know where you’re getting this info from. Girls basketball players and boys basketball players all have Conditioning 8th period. They alternated days on who practiced during 8th period to keep it fair. PC Cheer practiced way more at NP than any PC basketball team did. Sounds like you have issues with some of the PC community. Also seems like you’re trying to make yourself relevant by pretending to know what you’re talking about. Please keep your mouth shut if you have no idea what actually goes on with the practice schedule.
