Nope it’s behind a pay wall.

from what limited info I’ve picked up from the scrimmage I’ve deduced the following:

Belfry’s overall team speed is very very good.

Offensive line:   while IMO will be the strength of this team….still a work in progress early on.

good speed defensively….but wrapping up and solid tackling is still an area of FOCUS

Secondary and LB’s need consistency in pass defense.

So….that small breakdown sounds like virtually every early season breakdown on Belfry for the past 25 years….give or take a few.

this team has an opportunity to be very very good.  Whether they can handle their emotions(with all that has occurred over the past several months)  and capitalize on those opportunities remain to be seen.

Regardless…..Pirate Pride is Alive and Well on Pond Creek!!

I agree with that review. I felt like Belfry had two or 3 kids that could take it to the house at any given time. I know they only lost a few seniors last year, so I have a question for the Pond Creek nation. How does this years Pirate OL compare to last years OL? Last year they man handled my Rams on the LOS. This year that wasn’t the case. I’m just trying to gauge if we improved that much or if the 7-10 kids they lost were primarily upfront. Belfry has really good team speed and play with a lot of fire and passion. Only negatives I saw out of them were 3 fumbles. but with so much rotation going on, a lot of that is fixed by reps. Always a big Belfry fan. Good luck to the pirates this year!

beflry OL coach was not able to start coaching until until august 1st so that may bepart of it

Belfry OLine is still a work to be. They were without a 6’2” 323 senior and the new center is getting his first real work. As has been said, reps and meshing together will take care of a lot of it .

Belfry’s line is the last thing I’m worried about this season. They will be where they need to be time October rolls around. I wasn’t at the scrimmage but from highlights I’ve watched and folks I spoke with that were there they were impressed by Raceland. Definitely don’t look like a typical 1A team. Had some players that reminded them of some of the better Pikeville teams that steamrolled 1A. I think these are 2 teams who may end their season at Kroger Field

yeah….getting the new center as many reps as possible will be crucial.   But you always know that the OL is in some of the best hands available in Coach Tackett.

Owen Smith #75 played the most in the first scrimmage.  Big kid, seemed to do pretty good for his first start. It may take him a couple weeks to get everything together but he has played alot of ball in the past.

When JC lost Coach Matney, a lot of people including myself wondered if we might fall apart brick by brick and it took some time to get used to coach Peck. I have all the confidence in the world in coach Peck after all he and coach Varney are stepping into the shoes of two legends. I don't believe Belfry will skip a beat and I have a great deal of respect for the Pirates and their fans, Good luck on the season and I'll be pulling for y'all except when you play JC !!

Best wishes to Belfry this season.
Losing a coach is always tough.
Losing a coach like Haywood like you did has to be horrible.
It’s going to be easy to judge the new coach against that mile-long measuring stick but stay the course and I’m sure your tradition will carry on!

I know just how you feel friend, when we lost Coach Matney I felt the exact same way, I mean he had pulled us from ashes and molded us into a very respectable program state wind and a lot of us wondered if we would or even could win another game without him. But you know Mr. Trimble who is a former head coach at JC  stepped in and took the reins. All the boys and coaches and a whole bunch of fans decided to give it their best shot in honor of coaches memories so away they went all the way to the championship game.So Belfry is in good
hands and they will be fine

Belfry has never played Beechwood in a football game. Played several northern Kentucky schools but Beechwood is not one of them. That is a dream matchup I’ve wanted to see for a long time. I’ve wanted them in the Pike County bowl but now with Belfry in 2A this is a game you could see in the semis or state championship
