AT&T Cell Phone suggestions.
#1
It is about time to change phones for me and I would like to have some opinions as to which new phone to go with.

I text a lot so the text capability has to be user friendly. I also talk a lot so there has to be good battery life and call quality.

Please don't suggest the RAZR V3 or the V3XX. I am on my 7th one of those since February.Sad

Suggest away.

I have had great luck with the service. Just not the RAZR.

I think the Blackjacks are awesome. Another thing though, Midee on your Razr's the battery life problem may have been due to if you leave your Bluetooth on. This was my problem, lasts a whole lot longer now that i turn it off.

Never really had a battery problem with my RAZR. I would lose calls, they would just randomly just shut off, I would lose services in places that I have always had full bars like home. The problem started when I bought the phone. Got it for 20 bucks so I went ahead and bought me a bluetooth earpiece. After the first time they synced up they would never link up again. I went through 5 phones and 5 different earpieces in the first week and finally gave up on using a bluetooth. The store and customer care were both just baffled. Then about 7 months later it crapped out again and they sent me the upgraded V3XX for all the trouble I had with the V3 and it crapped out in about a week. I got this last one in November and knock on wood it is doing fine but the warranty is up in February.

Since my company doesn't cover your area, I will give you some advice on which phones to choose.

If you like a durable phone that has all the bells & whistles, I would go with the Samsung Blackjack. We just started carrying Samsung phones here at Appalachian Wireless and let me be the first to tell you, we have yet to have the first person send off our newest Samsung model for repair. We have several customers with the newest Samsung that was released back in October of 07. So 4 months with none sent off for repair is absolutely amazing.

I would also suggest getting a Blackberry Pearl or Curve. Blackberry has put out an extremely strong product. I currently have a Blackberry and I love it. The service on it is incredible, and it has many cool features. The only problem I have had is that it may catch a glitch and cause you to power cycle the phone, but that could just be my phone considering I got mine from the first batch that was shipped out.

As far as Motorola brand phones go, I like them personally. The only problem I have seen out of any of our Motorola's is battery life is not that great. The reason for poor battery life is strictly based on signal strength. If you keep your phone turned on in a low service area, you will notice your battery losing charge quicker. This is due to Motorola making such a strong product. Motorola, unlike any other brand, will constantly search for a stronger signal no matter how many bars of service you have (unless you are maxed out). Even if the phone can't pull in full service, the phone will still search for a better signal, thus killing the battery. Other than that, Motorola's are by far my favorite cell phone brand out there.

BC75 brought up a Pantech phone. Pantech phones were good in the day. They have been producing cell phones for years. I believe they were one of the first manufacturers to make analog phones. They went away for quite some time and are now coming back. I've never had a Pantech, but I would expect them to be decent phones.

Lastly, the IPhone. Everyone raves about the all-mighty IPhone. After doing some extensive research on the IPhone, the IPhone has been getting poor reviews. I've heard people say they are not durable, they don't have very good signal, battery life is horrendous, etc. I've never played with an IPhone personally, but honestly, you can get a Blackberry to do just about the same thing that an IPhone can do for a fraction of the cost. The blackberry has an MP3 player, they have a camera, you can upload photos into a gallery from your computer or digital camera, surf the web, and other things. The only thing is doesn't have is a touch screen. Touch screens are way harder to keep up, and are 10x the cost if you were to bust it out.

There you have it. Hope this helped somewhat.

BCF4L,

Funny you should mention the phones that you did. My choices have been narrowed down so far to the Blackjack, Pearl and the 8310 curve. Motorola has put a bad taste in my mouth with all of the troubles I have had with my RAZR's. I still fondly remember the days of the Star Tac. I absolutely loved that phone.

May order the 8310 in a few days and give it a go.

Thanks for the input.

I have the Blackberry 8830, which is pretty well the same as the Curve. The only difference is the Curve has a camera and mine doesn't. I think you will be satisfied if you go with the Curve, especially after the good experiences I have had with my phone. Like I said though, they are not considered the same phone, but can be linked in the same "family" if you wanted to call it that. Below are the two phones side by side. On the left is my phone, and on the right is the curve. As you can see, pretty much the same.

I just bought the Pearl today...I don't like it. The Bluetooth won't work with any other phone except another Blackberry and for some reason my browser option isnt there.

That is something that the Blackberry won't do Vundy. A Blackberry will not transfer pictures, music tones, etc. using Bluetooth. Actually, most phones are going away from it now. Manufacturers have finally realized all the illegal sharing of music that is going on, and decided to just block the Bluetooth transfer all together.

Man I didn't even know that it was illegal...I don't care to buy them, It's just that it doesn't have the MediaNET option. I think I have to go get that at the AT&T store...the woman messed it up I think:mad:

Well the Blackberry curve was the winner. I picked it up last night and so far I am happy with it. I got the unlimited data plan along with the GPS navigation. That feature is great for me as much as I travel.

I had to buy the red one for some reason. It just looked better to me.
