Can LCC football be fixed? What is going wrong?
#1
I am curious as to what people who watch the cougars play think is wrong? Is it the wrong personnel for the system, injuries, or other problems? I think it is a combination of all this and more. Lets hear what could fix the problems, and please some of you people do not pretend nothing is wrong. We are 1-3....

Don't feel bad, look at us.

We do support the cougars, but I think there are some major issues with this team. I don't know if it is fundamentals, or if it personal not being liked. I do know that we have the talent, and for the life of me I don't know what there problem is. I hope it is straighten out before district play.

I know 1-3 is not well received, but I still think patience is in order with a new coaching staff and games that matter still to come.

Good thing we have a bye this week, because I think that is what we need.

I think they have the talent standing on the sideline that could held the varisty team if they would use them and give the other players a rest.I think it would make a big different in this team. The players was really tired Friday nite some of them didn't not even get a break except for the time outs that is really hard on the players.
#7
Sounds like they need better conditioning, or #1couarfan has a kid whos not getting playing time.
#8
In 1 word. They are SOFT! Hard to have a Mountain team that does not like to play physical football. Whitaker better toughen up the Cougars or his stay maybe short lived.
#9
Interesting William Muney. Do you think that this is a result of the type game they are playing or the kids not being physical
#10
Its hard to imagine LCC being SOFT as some are putting it....
Terry Howard has sent some of the most physical teams to the high school level I have ever seen in the past couple of years. The group of sophomores this season won the Big Sandy Conference in 2008. SOFT is hard to imagine ????
#11
They are not a bad team. But they are also short of the type of excellence many expect. Too early to condemn the coaches though.
#12
I agree about condemning the coach, but it is our board. There mind set is win or get fired, or win and not be like and get fired. I really hope we can bounce back during district.

William Muney...you might just be my new hero. You are exactly right. :worthy::worthy::worthy:

When you say system do you mean administration, or the way it is ran on the field?

LCC does have talent both on the field and on the sidelines. LCC already missing Hillard Howard. This team was picked by many to win the district and possibly the region this year.? ? Whitaker may turn it back around by district games, but if he doesn't?? Gotta give him a shot at it.
#17
Do they try to run a spread offense?
#18
Getting away from the coaching and system for a second: this current team has two very glaring issues.

1. Run Defense
2. Offensive Line Play

The run defense has been discussed ad nauseum, but not alot has been said about the Oline play. Belfry was a perfect example of how big of a problem the line is. The Pirates have been absolutely torched by passing teams this season and by teams running out of the spread, but probably 80% of LCC's offense came from QB scrambles. When Belfry rushed 4 or 5 they got easy pressure, LCC's running game with Rose was non-existent, and ultimately it culminated with a sack and force fumble that sealed their fate.

Where did it go and why did it get removed?

I'm going to be optimistic and hopeful on this one. I think that Coach Whitaker and his staff will get the team on a winning course really soon. These kids know how to win and also know what it feels like to walk of the field as winners. I really think that they are not laying down on Coach Whitaker and I know that he and his staff will not lay down on them. We can all point out things that does not go right but as Cougar fans we need to find the things that they are doing correctly and comment on some of those because I know the coaches and players get on this site and they need some positive reinforcement right now, remember they are just kids (big kids) but still kids I do understand and appreciate our opponents views and that's their right to post them and I'm sure that as Cougar fans we have posted our opinions on other programs just as well. I think we are scoring enough points in most cases to win ball games and I think that the kids are trying to iron out some of the schemes that the new defensive coordinator has implemented. It's hard to move from one defense to another and understand and trust in that new defense but I think that Coach Beeder will get them straightened out really soon. I like to think that the past four ballgames was only a learning experience for the Cougars and now the real season is going to start for them. The upcoming district games and an off week to prepare for them hopefully will get the Cougars where they need to be. Last but not least remember we are having problems hanging onto the ball at opportune moments, getting penalties, missed assignments at times but these are all things that can definitely be corrected and with the talent these guys have I think that we will see our true Cougar team really soon. Guys keep your heads up and good things will come soon. Remember if it doesn't kill you it only makes you stronger.

I agree!!!!! However, the time is now. This Friday night the true season begins with district play against Perry Central. If there is any straightening out to be done it is NOW!!!!! We will see come Friday night and I BELIEVE and HOPE that things have been straightened out. If not more than likely the entire season can be noted as a LEARNING EXPERIENCE only. Good luck Cougars I know you can do it.
