What has made Bell great over the last 10 Years?

Coaching helps but the kids are what make the program, Kids are always the reason why you win games, how they were coached is why you lose. One of the greatest coaches told me that when I was in high school doing a tv interview.

Interesting, as far as success, has to start with coaching, but i see a lot of good coaches who have up and down teams, i believe a lot of it is the attitude the young people get from their parents and also coaches, being good with x and o's doesnt mean you always have the right attitude. I would imagine that your coach is a good man beside football and he cares, sincerly for his athletes. Keeping kids away from drugs and drinking has a lot to do with it. Pikeville sheldon clark and johnson central, examples of good programs with bad attitudes, and there program will never be what they want because of this reason. Bell, corbin, belfry p-burg, good programs with good attitudes, have enjoyed more consitant success, i have never felt like i would have to fight my way to the car at none of these schools. But a guy from johnson central had a gun out at a freshman football game. As afr as the d talk. In the old days at belfry we ran a split 6 sometimes called a 44. With two down linemen and de were standing and contain was their thing, the olb played head up and punished tight end, would also move out to the slot, is your 62 ine with down line playing a 3 and 5 tackle and lb behind the 3 tackles

i should have included ashland in the good team good attitude, was down there a couple weeks ago at a game where both sides could have got red because of the officiating, but was treated very kind by all there

Bringing Dudley back from Bourbon County and getting rid of Greer, this program was beginning to slide in 2000 (6-5) his last season coaching. This would be acceptable for most schools but not Bell, they put the wheels under him before it got to bad. Where did Greer go and is he still coaching.

Maybe if Highlands would stop running and play in 4a they would find out. Last game between Highlands and Bell County Bell won 1-0.

I know this flies in the face who believe it's not the Xs and the Os, but the Johnnys and Joes that determine great football teams, but I believe that the most critical component in successful programs is the head coach. And Bell has a great one in Dudley.

A great head coach develops the Johnnys and Joes. A great head coach develops a great corps of assistant coaches. A great head coach develops support from the administration. A great head coach mobilizes community, booster and fan support. And a great head coach comes up with great Xs and Os plans for each opponent.

I don't know what they are paying Dudley, but if you believe that success in football is important to the kids, the school and the community; if you believe the success in athletics leads to success in the class room and in life, then he's worth every penny he's getting paid and probably more.

So coaching is only credited for losses and never credited for wins?...hmmm this makes since. A great program is built by the combination of both players and coaches. You can't build something great without one or the other.

Another vote for Dudley Hilton. There is no more important factor in winning high school football games than the head coach. Hilton's turnaround of the Bourbon County program is a great example.

Four years before Jim Matney took over at Johnson Central, the team finished the regular season 10-0 and was a Class 4A (then the state's biggest) regional runner up. Musick left the team following that season and the team went 2-8, 2-7, and 1-9. The school hired Jim Matney the following season and the team posted a 7-3 record.

Hiring the wrong person as head coach can quickly destroy any good program. Dudley Hilton is the main reason that Bell County has a great football program. Everything else such as fan support, participation, etc. is a product of matching the right coach with the right school.
