Oldham County spoiled Shelby County’s Homecoming with a 48-14 victory Friday night at Robert Doyle Stadium.
The Colonels built a 41-7 halftime lead, scoring on every one of their first-half possessions, on their way to ending their four-game losing streak.
Oldham County junior quarterback Brett Strnad threw four touchdown passes, three to Cody Oldham, and senior playmaker Kerry Smith tallied two TDs – on a 90-yard kickoff return and a 36-yard reception.
The Colonels (2-4) rolled up 397 yards of total offense, while holding the Rockets (1-5) to 122 yards. Shelby County finished with 30 rushing yards on 27 carries and 92 passing yards.
The Rockets were once again plagued by fumbles (two lost) and penalties (eight for 82 yards) as well as Oldham County’s quick-strike offense (of the Colonels’ six scoring drives only two were longer than four plays).
“Fumbles and false starts, and the quick scores, it was a combination of everything,” Shelby County Coach Todd Shipley said.
Shelby County senior Ashley Travis was named Homecoming queen at halftime of the game.
