On July 16, 2011, 21 year-old Ann Blair Thornton, Miss Bowling Green, was crowned Miss Kentucky 2011. She is the daughter of Steve & Terri Thornton of Bowling Green. Ann Blair is a senior at Western Kentucky University where she is double majoring in English and Economics. She plans to eventually attend law school and become an attorney.
Ann Blair's platform issue is Alzheimer's Awareness & Research. Her platform was inspired by one of her grandparent's own struggle with the disease. Ann Blair performed Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in G Minor" for the talent portion of the competition. She also won a preliminary swimsuit award at this year's pageant.
As Miss Kentucky, Ann Blair serves as the spokesperson for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's "Kentucky Proud" program which encourages consumers of all ages to purchase products produced in Kentucky. She delivers this message to all age groups in schools throughout the commonwealth.
Some other interesting facts about Ann Blair include that she received the highest number of votes for senator in WKU's Student Government Association history. She is a nationally published journalist and the Kentucky State Senate recently passed a resolution in her honor. Ann Blair also served as Miss Kentucky's Outstanding Teen in 2007 and placed 4th runner-up at the 2007 Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant.
