Middlesboro looked very sharp as they were able to sub in many young kids for the final two innings. No Epperson in this one either as he was out of town. Roark sat down all 6 batters he faced in order and the bats came alive. Middlesboro opens with Thomas Walker, VA on Monday.

Hey idiot, this came straight out of the thread I created and the post that opened it:
Middlesboro 13 - Thomas Walker, VA 0 (5 innings)
Middlesboro opened their regular season with a bang tonight as they defeated Thomas Walker, VA 13-0 in 5 innings. Thomas Epperson went 2-2 with a HR and Austin Baker got 2 hits as well.
Crawford started the game and threw 2 scoreless giving up just 1 hit. Roark pitched the next two scoreless innings and didn't give up any hits. Capps pitched the last inning and gave up just one hit.
Very lucky not to get rained out. MHS will be back in action on Thursday against Cumberland Gap HS, TN.
That being said, Crawford has looked solid but remains the 3rd or 4th best pitcher on the team.

Whitley has a long way to go.
Starting a lot of freshmen and sophomores will make for a long year.

I'm not 100% aware of the specifics regarding Roark but I'm sure he was given a little flexibility due to some anxiety I'm sure he was feeling about coming out. He's been a football star his entire time at MHS and everyone looks at him as an elite athlete, I'm sure he had reservation about coming out and possibly tarnishing that reputation.
That being said, even if it isn't the case, I trust Coach Powell's judgement. I do believe he's earned the right to make whatever decisions he wants. If you think you could do better, go out, win 600+ games as a coach, be elected to the KHSAA hall of fame, and its all yours.
Brock is an outstanding player who has worked very hard to become one of the best defensive catchers in the region. I believe he has as much power at the plate as anyone in the region and he should be playing college ball somewhere.
Capps is a kid that no one thought would ever contribute coming out of middle school. Powell has developed him into a solid defender in center and a pitcher that can be relied to through strikes.
Crawford has come a long way since last year. He is still mighty slow but he has great hands at third base and a consistent arm. On the mound, he has good command and once he develops his CB a little more, he will be at the top of the rotation. At the plate, he has a very long way to go but a couple of hits in the first game are a good sign.
Baker, after hitting about .150 last year, has worked his tail of and has turned into a great leader for the Jackets. He now has great work ethic and could be the best defensive 2B in the region. He will also steal a ton of bases this year as he finds his way on more consistently.
Helton has a great amount of power and if he doesn't beat himself down, will be a force at the plate this year. He is a huge body on first and seems to have improved with the glove quite a bit over the off-season.
All of this being said, the reason people talk about Epperson and Roark is because they are hands down, the best athletes and performers on the team. That happens when you are that talented. Is it fair that Crawford and Capps don't get talked about much? Who knows. But this isn't little league. You can't give a trophy to everyone on the team.
I love every kid on the 2012 version of the Yellow Jackets. I wish you could enjoy the success of Roark and Epperson in addition to the rest of the team. Sounds like pure jealousy.
