Bats are DEAD! Looks like a lot of bunting this season.

SD, What exactly is this new bat rule and what is it suppose to do? Does it help the schools out that play small ball or does it make them worse?

Changes this season
Two major alterations will occur on the local baseball scene this year.
District 14 will switch from three-game district series to two-game series over the course of three days.
Jaggers voted for the move to two games, he said, because it gives teams a chance to play more games on weekends and schedule more opponents from around the state.
All teams in the state will also follow in the wake of college baseball and make the move to BBCOR bats. The bats are designed to lessen the “trampoline” bounce of the ball on contact and shorten the gap between aluminum and wooden bats.
“It’s not going to be where everybody can line up and try to smash with the opponent,” Humphrey said. “It’s going to be getting them on, getting them over and getting them in. We have to do old school because we can’t smash the home runs and extra-base hits with these bats.”
In the NCAA’s first season with BBCOR bats, home runs per game fell from 0.94 in 2010 to 0.52 last year.
“I don’t think you’re going to see as much pop,” Mosier said. “The power numbers will probably be reduced drastically, so it’ll come down to pitching, defense and offensive execution. I like the way our club is set to do those things.”
