Wildcats open season at Butler County
Published: Thursday, March 8, 2012 1:45 PM CST
The Franklin-Simpson baseball team will open the 2012 season a week earlier this spring, traveling to Morgantown Monday for a varsity only duel with Butler County that begins at 5 p.m.
The Wildcats of coach Craig Delk lost six starters from last yearâs 20-13 district runner-up team that fell to Russell County in the first round of the Fourth Region Tournament.
Seniors Zach Thomas and Dalton James are the lone senior returning pitchers. Junior infielder J.T. Arnemann, sophomore catcher Timothy Wimpee and sophomore pitcher/infielder Reed Caudill also return with some varsity experience.
âWe basically have four or five guys with varsity experience,â said Delk, who enters his eighth season at F-S. âWe do have a lot of kids that can play a lot of different positions so we can be creative this season. Weâll just piece together a team as the season goes on.â
The Wildcats downed Macon County, Tenn. 7-2 in their first scrimmage Monday and will host Owensboro Senior Saturday for another practice game beginning at noon.
Delkâs charges will head to Myrtle Beach, S.C. on spring break for The Ripken Experience, host two tournaments (Wildcat Classic and Wooden Bat Cancer Classic) and participate in three more tourneys (Central Hardin Wooden Bat Tournament, South Warren Invitational and Murray High Invitational).
