F4WOnline.com is reporting that the WWE creative team is continuing to lay out early plans for WrestleMania 29, and possibilities are currently being discussed as to who CM Punk will face at the big event.
Behind the scenes, Punk has been pushing hard to face Stone Cold Steve Austin at the PPV, but word is that it's far from guaranteed that a match between the two will actually take place.
Although Austin has been very vocal in the past year about being healthy enough for one more match, and has publicly said that he'd like to wrestle Punk if he were to return to the ring, a source close to the situation is saying that as of now, the chance of Austin wrestling at 'Mania next year is still "more likely a no than a yes."

No, why??? They did not turn either Cena or Rock, so this could be booked the same way. Punk has a unique fan base that won't leave him, just like Cena had. Austin will rock all the 30 year-old+ males, just like Rock did. This is the makings of the same set-up.

^Punk, as much as I like him, does not have the broad appeal that Cena does. Punk has his internet fans, and his base has grown wider, but it is certainly not to the level of Rocky or Cena.
This will not have the super-face appeal that Warrior-Hogan had but it will probably be like Rock-Cena, when fans begin to turn more against Punk, like they did with Cena. The loyal fan-base will remain loyal, but people will turn on Punk when Stone Cold is involved.
What I am saying is that they can try face-vs-face but the fans will turn anyway. Maybe that will work, but fans are fickle and in the wrestling world, fickle is good. What I mean by that is if HHH turns heel today, and then face in 4 months, most fans will follow.

The thing about these two guys is that they both have that anti-hero aura.
They pretty much act the same way whether they are a heel or a face.
You can do whatever with this and it turns out the same IMO.
Stone Cold stepping into the ring again will bring a big draw no matter what.

I agree about the draw. Put Stone Cold against Punk, Rock versus Cena 2, and Undertaker vs Brock, and you have created the biggest wrestling event since WM3.
