PHSForever Wrote:While I'm not a huge fan of the quality of their sports show since Rock left, I will say that if you consider the size of the coverage area and the distance between games sometimes, it is a miracle to get to as many as they do get to. I mean, I look at it, and I see coverage from Rockcastle County, Middlesboro, Williamsburg, Danville, Pikeville, Somerset, Hazard all in one night. Go on, look at the map and do the math, that takes some serious planning and driving. Just playing devils advocate here, but I'd bet money they will be at the Johnson Central-Belfry game, because that will be an all out war. I wish it were more extensive, but they are a fairly small station with a limited personnel. Guess we just have to be happy with what we get.
This makes my point. Only one team east of Hazard on this list. We see these same teams week after week. I hope they can find the time to drive all the way to Belfrey to cover the JC-Belfrey game because there will be several plays of the night in that game, maybe all five. It is no further to drive to Belfrey than to drive to Somerset, Middlesboro or Danville.
I do agree that WYMT is small and limited in the sportscasters they get, and if one is good they are soon gone. The ones on there now try to act like they are on Sports Center. The Rock, Milam and Casebolt were just good old boys telling you what went on in their own personal way and connected with people.

Pulp Fiction Wrote:I may catch some flak for this thread.... but I'm sorry, I gotta speak my mind. So if this thread offends you..... tell WYMT they dropped the ball.
Last night (Monday), they showed the "UPIKE Top 5 Plays" from this past week.
Johnson Central's kicker Tyler Pack set a new state field goal record of 60 yds. And they didn't even show a clip or mention as a top play. (this thread isn't about the the difference bewteen the two types of field goals either)
Please don't say there is no footage of the kick, I have 2 different clips of it posted on my Facebook wall. One from the Greenup County pressbox and one from a dad of a JC player.
A sophomore, from a mountain school, breaks the state field goal record.... and it's not even in the mentioned in the top plays by the channel that covers that school. C'mon Man!!!!!
^ This is why BGR is so important. I had no idea about the kick until today!

I agree that the coverage has been less than stellar, especially with the shortened sports overtime, but folks, it wasn't that long ago that there was no local sports coverage other than local newspapers and the Ashland Daily.
So, It ain't as great as it was recently, but is light years ahead of where it use to be not so long ago.

Full deck Wrote:Its the same as kicking it in the endzone from a kickoff isnt it.
Guess he kicked it from the 50 yard line. I say most kickers can do that also.
Are you serious? Have you been to many High School football games recently? I am at a different game every Friday Night and very few high schools kids can kick it into the end zone from the 50 yard line. COME ON MAN!!

Wymt sports has little footage and not very informative. Need lots of work

Try living in an area where no one even cares enough to cover HS games. Sheesh, at least they're being covered and put on TV. It doesn't get much better in such a rural area.

We live in Johnson county and we must not have any coverage either!! More people were informed about a state record being set on Facebook than WYMT. So my view of WYMT they are a JOKE! Maybe it would be a good idea for them to get some news from Facebook.

If you line up the ball with no players lined up and either hold it or put it on a t and kick it and kick it farther than anyone has kicked it before and you explane it to be just that. and you put an astrict behind it I think you could call it a state record. However if you kick in closer during game conditions under fire you could call that a state record also with no astrict. congradulations young man was a great kick'

^ Well, then that's proof enough that this thread may have made an impact! So you absolutely should not apologize, you should pat yourself on the back for making a difference!
