St. Xavier scored on the last play of the game -- a 23-yard pass from B.J. Nagle to Charles Walker -- to rally past Manual 24-23 Friday night in high school football.
The touchdown to Walker actually tied the game and the extra-point kick by Jake Collins clinched the win for the Tigers (5-4, 1-2 Class 6-A, District Four).
Manual appeared in good shape to beat St. X for the first time since 1993 when Michael Nero scored on a 33-yard run with 1:11 left. The Crimsons (6-2, 0-2), however, missed the extra-point kick.
"It was a golden opportunity," said Manual coach Oliver Lucas. "We played hard, fought but made mistakes. We were in position to win and we didn't close it out. The coaches take responsibility."
Taijon Smith scored twice in the first half -- on runs of 70 and 10 yard -- as St. X led 14-0.
Then Manual scored the next 17 points before the Tigers' Collins kicked a 29-yarder to tie the game at 17.

I hate to see Manual lose like that. Congrats to St. X on the win.
