Final from Russell County. Knights break it open and cruise in the second half. The Lakers had a great season but they have got to beef up their regular season schedule if they want to compete and win games like this. It is a shame that a team with the players that Russell County has had the last 3 seasons has not been able to get to that first ever Regional Championship game.

2013-Russell County is 9-1 in the regular season. Loses 34-14 in the 2nd round to a Lexington Catholic team that had 3 regular season losses.
2012-Russell County is 10-0 in the regular season. Loses 14-6 in the 2nd round to a Boyle County team that had 4 regular season losses.
2011-Russell County is 9-1 in the regular season. Loses 19-14 to a Mercer County team that had 6 regular season losses.
The lesson here? Play a better schedule and get tested before the playoffs. Wayne County, Somerset, Glasgow, Danville, Warren Central, South Warren and Garrard County are all right there close by and would be improvements over the schedule that the Lakers play.

There is no future for the lakers for several years. Based off the talent coming up it will be at an all time low for at least 4 to 5 yrs. there opportunity was the last 2 seasons and as you stated just didn't challenge themselves enough with a schedule. You can't win doing that

You should see the other thread on this. Lakers are making excuses about bad officiating. Really? On their own field? What a joke huh.

I'm sure it was the officials. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with Lexington Catholic being in better game condition could it? That couldn't be the reason for the runaway in the second half could it? I'd say it played a large role. When your starters play half of a game every week you're just not going to be in great game shape. Sure, the coaches can run them, have them lift, do up/downs or whatever. That still doesn't simulate having to play 48 minutes against opposing players that are your physical equal most weeks. When you only see teams like that once or twice a season it will catch up with you--and it has now 3 years in a row. 28-2 in the regular season 2-3 in the playoffs.

That's what this dude is been trying to say about the Lakers for the last 3 season. Competition, competition and more competition.

I know numbers are not good enough to let the lakers have the ability to play a tougher teams for fear over loosing starters ,just not enough depth for big time 4A football right now I think all the fun surrounding the team the last few years may help to get more kids involved.

No reason they couldn't have scheduled some of these teams: South Warren, Somerset, Wayne County, Danville, Glasgow and Garrard County. Each one of those teams are less than an hour away and are all 3A or below. If they're so afraid of taking a physical beating from those teams that they have to schedule Campbellsville, Casey County, Taylor County, Adair County and LaRue County (among others) they'll never get out of the second round of the playoffs.
