Songs For My Presentation
#1
My presentation deals with making good decisions and things like that, but the main theme is that everybody fights their own hard battles. Tom Petty's song "You Don't Know How It Feels", sings what I'm saying perfectly, because nobody knows how anybody else feels. But, a big part of my presentation is making good choices, and that involves stuff like staying away from drugs (doesn't say that specifically in my presentation, but it's understood), and in the song, he says "Now let's get to the point, let's roll another join......" Do you think I could still use the song and say that quote's wrong or explain it somehow??

I don't know how I'd do it, but the song's perfect for my presentation, and completely wrong at the same time. "You don't know how it feels to be me," basically sums up my entire presentation (not only because nobody knows what it's like to be me, but I don't know what it's like to be anybody else and nobody else knows what it's like to be anybody else, *everybody fights their own battles*).

Any ideas?

Sounds like it would be a good song to choose, but it looks like you would have to do alot of thinking to explain why the song is wrong at the same time like you stated. But good luck with it all, hope you do good!

I'm thinking Everlast- What it's like- might be a better choice and might even better illustrate my message.

there is an edited version where he doesn't say joint, it was made for Mtv.

Brooke Benton had a great song called "I got what I wanted, but lost what I had"

havent heard it in sometime.

Use that one instead, because Everlast poses a negative standpoint on the things he mentions in the song, whereas Tom Petty acts like drugs are an escape to his bad feelings.

Everlast's song is good but it has a bunch of strong curse words in it.

I will check around and see what I can come up with. If you used the edited version then it would be a lot of bleeps or gaps in the song. If Tom Petty has an edited version that just censors out joint that you may want to consider it.

I'm considering that strongly too but I'm wondering what it could say besides joint?

Maybe the word/line is just left out. I imagine it to just be a gap there, usually there aren't bleeps on songs anymore and if they replaced it with something appropriate for television, radio, things like that then I'm sure it won't be bad. Try to download the censored version and see.

I couldn't find the censored version on Limewire. I think that I would just use it and explain that people try to use things such as drugs, alcohol, mutilation as their escapes but there are so many other ways to deal with things and there will be times in their lives that they don't think that anyone in the world will 'know how it feels to be them' there are always people that love and care about them very much that will help them through.
