#1
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's basketball team stormed out of the gates early and never looked back, topping South Carolina, 76-62, Tuesday night at Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide had nine players in the scoring column, including four in double figures, to snap a two-game losing streak.

Freshman John Petty led all Crimson Tide scorers with 15 points, while junior Donta Hall added 13 points to go along with seven rebounds. Sophomore Daniel Giddens scored 11 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting performance while junior Avery Johnson Jr. added 10 points on 2-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc.

Alabama (10-6, 2-2 SEC) shot 58.8 percent from the field (30-of-51) and registered its highest shooting percentage in a half this season, shooting 63.6 percent (14-of-22) in the opening 20 minutes.

Furthermore, Alabama edged the league's best rebounding team, 35-28, on the glass, while the Tide's bench provided a huge offensive output by outscoring the Gamecock bench, 35-16.

"We had a better effort from our team tonight with balanced scoring, more awareness on defense and rebounding the basketball," Alabama head coach Avery Johnson said. "We looked like we had an identity tonight. We are a defense team first, a rebounding team and a team that doesn't complain, puts the hard hats on and just plays. I liked our body language, our physicality without fouling and just being passionate about the game. I liked our overall effort tonight."

Alabama opened the game on a roll, firing off five straight baskets to take the 13-8 lead at the 14:07 mark, and extended its advantage to 21-8 thanks to a 12-0 run over a span of 2:39, capped by Petty's back-to-back threes. Alabama would go on to lead by as many as 17 points with 8:16 left in the half, when Giddens converted a steal into to a fast-break layup for Johnson Jr.

The Gamecocks (10-6, 1-3) responded, however, ending the half by connecting on seven consecutive field goals to cut the score to 40-33 at intermission. On the defensive end, Alabama held the Gamecocks to 42.9 percent shooting from the field (12-of-28) and forced five turnovers in the first half.

Alabama came out of the break hitting four of its first five shots, while containing the Gamecocks to 1-of 8 shooting to help push the Tide's lead to 48-38. The Crimson Tide continued to tack on points, gaining its largest lead, 69-47, with 6:46 remaining, using a 17-2 offensive surge over a 4:00 span. Alabama would go on to cruise to its second double-digit home victory on league play.

In the second half, Alabama limited South Carolina to just 7-of-25 shooting from the floor and 0-of-6 from beyond the arc.
