Leave it at 6 classes, take the top 3 teams. Give the district winner a bye to start the post season.

This does the best job of making sure good teams don't get left out, while eliminating really bad teams having to travel to get the clock run on them.

I think a TOTAL overhaul of the system is in order. I'd look closely at Illinois and Ohio systems.
