:dontthink I told you last week, to not talk the talk but walk the walk. Former President Teddy Roosevelt once said, "It's better to walk softly and carry a big stick." So ssshhh!! And bring a big stick to the plate tomorrow evening.

I know it, they've not a seen an 88-90 mph fastball all year.

thats prolly the smartest baseball move of this season not to pitch him against them in the regular season so they wouldnt have seen it once or twice prior too that

Not buying that for a moment. Willing to wager that they have seen Chas Harmon's heat in practice for the last 2 weeks. Big Grin

He is a totally different pitcher than Matt Fyffe. Seeing him will not have an effect on the game. IMO the team who makes the least amount of errors will win. Both teams Pville and JC will get runs but which team will minimize their mistakes is yet to be seen. GO EAGLES!

Ohhhhh really? Harmon still throws 88-90 MPH heat with MUCH, MUCH more movement on his ball than Fyffe and is capable of sustaining that velocity.. If Paintsville can fare well against him in practice I can assure you they will be able to hit Fyffe. Perhaps they are not able to touch Harmon to begin with, but otherwise you dont have a clue on this one. Harmon had a workout with the Cincinnati Reds two weeks ago and was one of only 30 players invited back nationwide to a 2nd evaluation at Great American Ballpark.

I never said anything about how Paintsville would do against Fyffe, all I said was him and Harmon are totally different pitchers! Yes they both throw fast but IMO you can't say they will hit better against him just because they have seen Harmon. Congrats to him though on the tryout, the reds sure could use all the help they could get Wink

That is most certainly true. Lol.

I think Paintsville will be able to hit Fyffe. Fyffe is a great high school pitcher, but if they can hit Harmon (who is one of the best pitchers I've seen in a while, and set a school or JUCO record at St. Catherines along with Jeremy Slone) then I think they will bejust fine. I remember playing ball against a kid that threw 96-97mph who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs last year....it came up on you quick, but his ball was flat with little movement and we were able to hit him. If Fyffe can get movement on his fastball and use some offspeed junk then it'll be a great contest like the first game these two teams played. If not, we might see the same result from the last game.

The statement was made that Paintsville had not seen anything along the lines of 88-90. I just replied that I felt that more than likely that they had, and that's all I said. 88-90 is still 88-90. How is one's 88-90 different than the other ?

Come on now. You had no chance to hit McCormick......................................

I agree, Mac threw hard but had no control. Fyffe is very commanding while on the hill. If he can't get you with the fastball he has a great Slider. I really don't think Paintsville has faced Harmon when he was in his prime because 1) they were on the same team 2) this group of seniors were in the 7th grade when Harmon walked across the stage and 3) even if they did face him in batting practice he wasn't showing his stuff because, well it was BP. The Tigers may be able to make contact but I really think this will be a low scoring game. Best of luck to both teams tonight.

First off lets not make a mistake on who I am rooting for. Fyffe is an outstanding pitcher. I am just trying to be realistic and carry on an intelligent conversation about all of the variables without sounding like a homer.

Harmon is the JV coach at Paintsville right now. I am sure that the Paintsville staff has taken advantage of him being there everyday. Harmon is the only possible player in this area that Paintsville could get to imulate Fyffe in BP, (maybe Slone if he is done) or Adam Blanton, which well, that aint going to happen.

I never said you were a homer, but I was agreeing with you that Paintsville hasn't seen anyone thus far like they will tonight. I knew Chas was the JV coach and I'm sure he has worked with the Paintsville pitching staff. I was saying that I seriously doubt they have faced him full go after he had Tommy John surgery and having pitched a limited amount at Pikeville College because of his elbow. I have learned though that Chas recently had a try out with the Colorado Rockies and is looking to get back in the game which I think is great because he was/is a heck of an athlete at any sport of his choosing. If in fact the Tigers have faced him at practice I'm sure I am not the only one that thinks there is a big difference between an actual game situation and batting practice, that was the only point that I was trying to make. 5:30 cannot get here soon enough, here's to a great game, good luck to all.

Yeah I know the difference in BP and a game situation but a game scrimmage with him on the mound could be as close as an emulation as what your going to get. Heck who knows , he may not have thrown any at all . He is just a readily available resource that I thought the Paintsville staff could take advantage of. Perhaps they have not.

I dont think he threw any at Pikeville last year, but I will say that his former college coach told me two weeks ago he has never seen him have better stuff. Velocity off just a shade but still very comfortably in the upper 80-90 range.

Paintsville has taken BP off of both Harmon and Slone. And hit pretty good. Adams to his first swing and went deep. Pugh was a monster and the rest did pretty good. Slone's slider was absolutely wicked. If Fyffe can get his slider across the plate, he might depend on it a lot today. Everyone was hitting the fastballs. And they were all 87+
They have been working on getting their hands through on the pitching maching and it was bringing it every bit of 94.

This district is a gauntlet. I would say whoever comes out of this district will represent the 15th in the sectionals. But you never know, that's why you gotta play 'em.

I say JC and LC will represent the 57th. JC has had a drought for a couple of years and I look for them to get a big win over Paintsville.
#21
Paintsville will win the 57th but it's a shame that ol' Johnson Central cant be in the region tourny because they are the 2nd best team in the region in my opinion. The region championsip will be a 57th showdown with Pville and LC.
