Mayfield over Somerset is a interesting choice. But I think the rest is pretty accurate. The top 2 could be a coin flip though.

I'm fine with it. It's still too early in the season to know how to value Mayfield's close game with Hopkinsville or Somerset's big wins over Rockcastle and Montgomery. We'll know more in the coming weeks.

I can't see Beechwood at #3, at this point. I'd have Breathitt and LCA both higher, maybe even OB Catholic and Caldwell.. If Beechwood beats Somerset this week, then that's a different story, but, until then, I think they're too high..

Looks about right, until someone beats Mayfield they are #1. Until Somerset vs. Beechwood they are in right spot. Then Somerset has to look fwd to Lex. Christian. Lots of time and games to paly to get too excited about rankings. I have seen Breathitt and they have some skilled people. Not like Somerset does.

They've only played one game, vs a team that had also only played one game. Hard to know how to value that one game with them coming off of a 3-8 season. I'd say if they win this week against a ranked Williamsburg team that will take care of itself.

They are. But at this point in the season Mayfield has better wins right now. If you want to go on eye test and if teams played right now who would win I would take Breathitt unless @ Mayfield. Most polls don't go by this. They go by preseason rankings, which are usually incorrect and who you have played. I will be 1st to admit Mayfield has more quality wins right now. If Somerset beats Beechwood Friday which I think they do
I would move them to #1

You never did tell us which Mayfield game that you attended, or which Breathitt County game that you went to. And how can you say that Breathitt is better than Somerset when you haven't seen the Jumpers in a game?

Breathitt Co will be hard to gauge all year because of there schedule. Most likely they'll have more running clock games than anyone in the state, but, a lot of the teams on here would do the same against that schedule. I do think they have a lot of talent and are at least a Top 5 team. At least with teams like Mayfield, Somerset, LCA, Beechwood, Danville, Ob Catholic, Caldwell Co, Murray, etc., they all have challenging games through out the season and you're able to give them a little more credit for winning tough games.

Last year, Shelby Valley was very similar. They had a gaudy record in the regular season, but, the 2 times they played a team with a pulse, they got a running clock put on them. They may well be a Top 10 team, but, I can see why some would be hesitant to put them there.

Which I don’t think there fans would mind hanging their hat on an undefeated season. No matter what the strength of schedule is. IMO

There's nothing to dethrone. Mayfield is not the defending Champion. With CAL in 3A it is a vacant crown.

I would have to disagree with this statement. In the KHAA rules if the reigning 2A champion is unable to perform it duties the runner up must step in and take over. Since CAL has moved to 3A that makes them unable to represent 2A. So Mayfield must step in and sit in the throne. I may be confusing a little bit with the Miss America pageant but think is same. LOL
