Severe Weather
#1
In my lifetime at least, never seen a stretch of weather that we've had in the last 3 months. We started off 2025 with a bad ice/winter storm that seemed like it took till mid-February to all thaw out, which then around that time we got torrential rainfall and caused devastating flooding in our area, families and businesses are still recovering from that devastation, only to have severe storms, straight line winds and (unconfirmed as of right now) tornadoes hit the mountains just a few nights ago.

Doesn't get any better, starting tomorrow, Wed. 4/2 they're forecasting more severe storms with a little bit of everything on the menu, rain, hail, damaging winds and more chances for isolated tornadoes, but somehow it doesn't end there. We're under a flood watch until Sunday! So, after all these storms roll through, the rain continues on into the weekend, projections are showing right now for portions of EKY to get 3-6 inches of rain, if we get that much especially here in Floyd & surrounding counties, there won't be anything left of this area. Places in Central Ky are projected to get an unprecedented 7-12 inches of rain.

Meteorologists catch a lot of flak for getting forecasts wrong, I never understood why tho. I'd rather their projections be wrong and everyone be over prepared, than them be 100% right and everyone being under prepared which happens a lot. That's all they want is to keep us as prepared as they possibly can.

Hopefully it doesn't get as bad as they're saying, but if it does,s I sure hope that everyone is prepared and will stay safe during all this.

How are things in KY? I've seen Hopkinville on the news, looks pretty rough there. I have also talked to my mom, she lives on the Ohio River near Ashland. She said the main road in and out of town goes along the river is flooded (she tends exaggerate a bit) and areas of town is flooded. I am waiting to hear from my brother to see how things really are.
Hope all is safe with you guys, hope you make it through without any damages.

Luckily, eastern Ky didn't get it nearly as bad as we got it back in February, experienced some flash flooding in places that caused some issues, but nowhere near the devastation that happened here. There was a really bad storm that was thought to be a tornado, but turned out to be straight line winds that ripped through Floyd Co, caused some damage at the Floyd Co. BOE or old Allen Central High School, and made its way over into Pike Co, done some damage through Coal Run, a place that was really hit hard by the flooding.

Our neighbors to the central/north/western part of the state didn't get so lucky this time unfortunately. Toward Frankfort, they've experienced record flooding along the Kentucky river, last, I had read it wasn't supposed to crest until sometime today but wouldn't start really going down till tomorrow.

It has definitely been some of the wildest/unpredictable weather, this 3 month stretch we've had has been unlike anything I've ever seen. Then to top it off, we go into a freeze warning tonight, with temps tanking into the 20's for the next few days, even a chance for a few flakes to fall. I'm over all this.
