New Criteria to compete in "All A"
#1
The criteria to compete for the "All A Classic Title" has always been an enrollment of 425 for students in grade 10-12. 9th grade numbers were not considered. They will be changing this to the smallest 125 schools in the state (with grades 9-12 counted). How will this effect the 13th, 14th and 15th region teams.
#2
If this goes into effect for next season Knott Central will not get to participate in the All A as planned. I would say Leslie would be knocked out as well.
#3
Valley will be out, they were already riding the line of not being in anyways.
#4
Wont hurt Hazard or JBS, but will most likely help them by knocking out other teams.

Actually looking at the enrollment on KHSAA, I tried to count (eyes went cross) and it looks as if Valley was the 126 smallest school. There was schools smaller that valley but were all girls school dropping Valley a little lower.

Leslie would still be in. Knott would be out. Knott has over 100 more kids than Leslie.

I think they should take out the Private schools also.

I agree. There's enough of them to have their own tournaments... not a bad idea!

Amen to that suggestion, Lisa. I feel the private schools should compete against each other. We have fallen victim to LCA in football and now UHA in basketball! The private schools have a marked advantage over the public schools. I just wonder when KHSAA will wake up and realize this disparity and do something about it...probably not in my lifetime!

What advantage do they have that Public schools do not have?

A lot.

I hear that all the time. How about some examples?

Heres one for you. If a team from a private school needs to practice at 2:00 and the school dosn't let out until 3:00 guess what they can do what they want (and it happens) and practice at 2:00. A public school can not do this.

I can tell one thing a you see a private school get by with more than a public and that is RECRUITING!!!!

Sorry to tell you, but the All A isnt a KHSAA sponsered event. It is a cooperate sponsored tourney. The KHSAA cant do anything about the All A. If it was a KHSAA event, even fewer teams would be allowed in it.

I'm not sure Touchtone Energy wants to pick a fight with the KHSAA; however, that won't be an issue because the KHSAA Board of Control won't do anything...except be a regulatory body that doesn't regulate anything that matters: example: "It is o.k to recruit an AAU type team, but, have them tuck their jersey's in, please."

I wonder........Which type of school, private or public, has had more transfers in the last 1-2 years with kids already in high school. Hazard has a few. Anyone else please add. I would gather more transfers are between public schools or go from private to public than public to private.

Now hold on just a second. I understand that everyone has an opinion and I'm not knocking that, but I find it strange that this comes out now. For example, JBS has been in existance for maybe 20 years now and noone cared when they got thier heads bashed in for 15 of those years by big public schools. There is only a concern when they actually start winning things. Come-on! Same with other private schools. I do agree that some - and I do mean some- seem to recruit. Guess what????? So do the public schools. If you can't see that then you're blind.

I have attended both public and private schools and experienced coacing first hand. Trust me-it may even possibly be worse in the public schools. If an opposing coach has a problem then they need to address it to the KHSAA and have a grevience started. I've been through those too. Not a lot of fun, but make your complaints be known.

It's kind of like voting. If you don't vote, then you have no right to complain. I hope this makes sense.

It isn't very smart to throw rocks if you're living in a glass house!

I agree 100%. No one cares until they start getting beat by them, then it's time to throw a flag.

This is somewhat off topic, but question: why does it seem that so many say, "If you don't vote, you cannot complain."? I do not think the First Amendment has that clause. Sometimes, refusing to vote can be a comment on the system itself...and, anyway, not voting is not relevant to voicing one's opinion, be it complaining or cheerleading.

stay on topic please

Your post used the analogy of voting and complaining. I responded, dissenting from your use of that analogy. How is that off topic?

Recruiting would be the one that sticks out the most.

They may do it, heck they may do it more. BUT RECRUITING NO MATTER PUBLIC OR PRIVATE IS ILLEGAL.

The disgusting thing about the private schools is they don't even have to recruit to get these talented athletes. They simply put funding into and establish a good sports program by hiring a good coacing staff and building a large venu and set back and wait for the good athletes to come. It's more or less a form of promising the student that they will win if the come and play without really saying it...and then they can take these students with little or no battle with KHSAA because they are private. I think it would be interesting to see how may of the better athletes are truly payng their full tuition at these schools and how many are on scholarship. That might be very interesting research and give an ever clear picture of how the private and the public schools are different.

I thought there was supposed to be separation of church and state. Why not separate the church-funded schools and the state-funded schools?

Separation of church and state basically means that the government cant enact laws to favor a church. Besides, the KHSAA isnt considered a "state" as far as the separation is concerned.
