Shumate gets the job done
By Richard Skinner NKy.cincinnati.com
It wasn't exactly an easy way for pitcher Adam Shumate to make his first varsity baseball appearance, but he came through like a veteran to help Covington Catholic hold off Scott on Saturday afternoon.
Shumate, a sophomore right-hander who pitched on the junior varsity last season, entered Saturday's game with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the fifth inning and CovCath clinging to a 5-3 lead. He promptly induced a groundout to shortstop to end the threat.
CovCath added three runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to win 9-4 at Tom Berger Field
