I know most everyone gets phone calls from telemarketers soliciting money for most everything. Last week I recieved a call from a telemarketer collecting money for the families of fallen and disabled members of the state police and sheriffs departments around the state of KY. I have given to this cause before, but for some reason, I ask the guy if all of my donation went to the families in need, hoping that they may get about 60%. I was shock when this gentleman told me that only 15% of the money actually went to the families, I almost fell out of my chair. He said that the 85% they kept went to pay salaries, maintain equipment etc. so I told this person that before I would give him one penny, I would personally take my donation to local sheriff's office or state police headquarter myself.
My advice to everyone is whenever a telemarketer calls, regardless of the cause ask how much does the charity receive.
