APD and AFD

Policemen and Firemen for the most part are great people and do a great job in our community...I often feel with their hazardous conditions in which they work that they are under paid. Any thoughts or comments?

I agree that they are underpaid but the question is how do you give them a raise and keeep the citizens from barking about taxes?

That was my thinking as well. I don't know as much about APD but AFD sure had and I think still has some pretty good clauses in their union contract.

As for being underpaid I totally agree having been involved in emergency services I know just how nice the pay can be. If it was good I would still be doing.

As a Criminal Justice major and soon to be law enforcement employee, I have to say once you've studied all they do and what they have to go through on a daily basis, you can understand even more why people say they are under paid, GREATLY!

I have a very very good friend who works for the APD. And alot of people say their lives aren't threatened in the tiny town of Ashland. But I assure you they are more than what you hear about. Not as much as the bigger cities like new york obviously. But more happens than whats lead to believe here in Ashland.

I agree...

Just about every lower level government employee is underpaid, from the military to cops and firefighters. It's bad. One thing I do have to say about the military's pay is that we get alot of perks and extra pays, but still, $1100 a month after taxes sucks pretty bad. I don't know much about what cops get but I've heard here in KY it also isn't that good compared to other states.
