Johnson played well. A hair under 100 yards rushing with a TD.

Belfry had well over 400 yds of total offense with around 300 on the ground led by Robinson who went over the century mark.

Williams passed for over 100 yards with a TD and Messer had two big catches.

I usually don't say much about Belfry but they looked impressive last night. The Robinson is going to be an animal.

I was in attendance last night. Belfry's defense was very good. First series 3 plays and punt, 4th down stop, another 3 and out, etc. With the exception of the long go pass that Harrison hit, they were really shut down.

On offense, I was pleasantly surprised with how crisp the Pirates looked for this early in the year. The line consistently surged and opened holes. Willis ran well although Harrison's interior defense seemed intent on shutting down the fullback. Justin Johnson was quick through the hole and ran hard for such a small back. Robinson showed nice shake and (although it is early) looks to be the go to guy in the backfield. Both guys showed real good burst and quickness, but neither showed breakaway speed.

Tyler Williams threw some nice balls but just as good for the Pirates, Messer and Co. went up and got the balls with some athleticism.

Nice start to the season.

congrats to the pirates justin johnson look good he didn,t carry the rock as much as the other backs but when he did he look great.got the first 8 points for the season.people say no break away speed is crazy the truth is this sophmore is quicker than recent belfry backs and was out running a few highs school backs i want mention when he was in grade school were he put in way over a hundred tds in old vipperman stadium.pond creek is lucky to have him.and if u don,t want him send him across the mountain we will gladly take him just a sophmore wow.give him 30 carries a ballgame he would have atleast 400 yds so before u judge him look what he done on the few carries he got.

No one said anything negative about Johnson. I agree he did well tonight as did all the players. There is plenty of talent on the Pirate team and personally I love it! It is a team and the fans have to remember that what works 1 game may not work the next game. I think people at Belfry, Pike Central, Pikeville, etc would agree based on Johnson’s past performance, he is and will continue to be a good player. Let’s agree to live in the present and work for the future. Hopefully at Belfry, every parent remembers it is a team and everyone has to do what it takes every practice and game to make the team go farther and installs this attitude in their child. Some games a player may run the ball, catch the ball, throw the ball, block…but none of these make a player’s role less important. I am sure glad Johnson lives in Belfry and his dad doesn’t have your attitude of packing up and leaving cause of whatever (still not sure what sparked this rampage) and understands The Great Tradition Of Pirate Football. If you have a child that plays at a school across the mountain, I feel sorry for his coach, not cause of your child but because of the your mentality of looking at things. Go TEAM!

I was VERY impressed with Belfry. Mainly the defense. Zack Thacker was a pleasant surprise at corner, played excellent! Hopefully they can teach that defense to have an angry, aggressive, hard hitting attitude. I want to see a "mean" defense.

Offensively, Josh Robinson looked wonderful which is always good to see when Trey Willis is being keyed on. Plus Justin Johnson is super quick. Don't forget, Josh Dixon COULD be used back there if needed. Tyler looked awesome throwing the football and Tony used his big 6'6 frame and went up for those passes. I know Harrison County didn't have an impressive record last year, but they did return alot, and a 34-7 win in the first game against a 4A team is FAR better than beating a 1 or 2A Cov. Holy Cross by a TD, or Boyd County by 2 TD's.

Or losing to Prestonsburg, TWO years in a row.

1-0! Fight on, Belfry!

Johnson did an excellent job blocking on the outside runs, the offensive line was anchored by Fields and Duty.

Congratulations to Pirate Howie Dotson for having WYMT's "Catch of the Night". Great start to the season Pirates!

Congrats Belfry

I wish there was some Harrison Co. input on the game. Seems that team has very little presence on this board.

Zach Thacker was impressive with his tackling! Laid some wood to the Harrison QB a couple times. It was nice to see plenty of bodies rotating in on the front line. Haywood and company seem to be utilizing smaller/quicker d-lineman this season, with the exception of Willis - who is a monster.

Warren interception was one of the better plays I have seen from a high school kid. Read the QB's eyes, reversed direction, and have to lay completely out to catch a rifle shot from the Harrison QB.

I am still sorta suprised at how well the offense executed. Very few penalties and timing was good.

Nice win Pirates. Beat Henry Clay.

Congrats Pirates!

I just got done watching this one.
Belfry has a nice little passing game
As always their backs run hard

HARRISON COUNTY
I like their punter
Their rec really dropped a lot of balls that should have been caught.
