Estill has couple that's good. Jantzen Day and Corey Thomas. I know they have a lot of young talent on that team and some that's coming up

Hazard has a good group of Juniors: These kids have played for a while together in the spring and summer and should give the Bulldogs a good chance to be at the top of the region.

I agree with you Hazard only lost 3 games to the 14th region last year, and one of them was in the region tournament. Powell will have a good team and I think they have to be the favorite, seeing how they didn't lose a game to region opponents until the tournament? I look for them and Hazard to be #1 and #2 and LCC at #3.

Hamilton, Breathitt Co. - best left handed pitcher in the region (arguably the best pitcher period). Pitched and got wins against KCC in '10 and Leslie Co. in '11 during the regional opener.
Hubbard, Leslie Co. - best defensive catcher in the 14th, good stick too.
Johnson, Hazard - fastest player, and probably the best defensive shortstop in the region.
Creech, Wolfe Co.
Olinger, Hazard
Short, LCC
Baker, LCC
Whitaker, Hazard
Cox, Breathitt Co.

I think the realization about Breathitt County is they won 5(2 of those wins came in the post season)games last year? I don't think it matters who is on the mound, because as long as their opponent can put the ball in play, then I think they'll be just fine? Breathitt is most likely going to the region tournament as a winner because Wolfe will be the only team in their way, but Wolfe could very well pull it off too, who knows? Is he truly the best pitcher in the region? What were his stats last season?

Consistently low 80s with fastball, curve/slurve upper 60s-low 70s. Good live arm, good control. IMO, if you threw him on one of the top teams in the 14th with a good line-up and defense behind him he'd win 8-12 games a yr pitching against the better opponents on that team's schedule.
If he improves leg strength and core strength he should be bringing it mid 80s consistently. Throwing from the wrong side that will be nasty on hitters in our area. With Potter, KCC and Mays, Powell Co. graduated...I think he and Conner Hurt (senior at PCC) are the best pitchers in the region.

You make a very good argument for him.

I guess you can tell by this post you don't pay attention to the whole region. Hayes is as good, if not better than Hubbard and Morton is a great short stop as well.
Other great Junior
Lee- Baker
Estill- Thomas
Powell-Hayes, Hale, Morton, Spencer, Pelfrey ( If someone can steal bases better than him, please tell me) and Johnson will be huge on the mound this year. All player list in your and my post are going to be impactful players this year.

I agree with you 100%...Powell Co. has the top SENIOR class in the region. Hazard has the top JUNIOR class. This thread is about the top JUNIORS in the 14th. I meant no disrespect to Powell Co. I think them and Hazard are the two most talented teams in the 14th. Along with Knott Central they were the most talented teams in 2011 as well.

Chad Davidson at jackson city was looking like a good little ball player last year he should turn some heads this year

You are right. All that I listed from Powell are Seniors. I guess I was wishing they were still juniors.

What year is the Hamilton pitcher from Breathitt County? Heard he is transferring or has transferred.

Up until a couple weeks ago i would have agreed with rawlingsfan on 2 out of 3. JOHNSON and HUBBARD. Hubbard is the best defensive catcher in the 14th hands down, he doesn't have the strongest arm but has a very good pop time and balls DO NOT get by him. Very solid, consistent bat. Johnson is the fastest in the region, one of the fastest in the state. He uses his speed well, being timed in the 60, on the bases, and covering a lot of ground around short. He also has power, great hands, and always finds a way to get it done on the field. I think you have to have CREECH in there too. He has a textbook swing, strong arm and is fundamentally sound in all aspects of his game. His travel and summer team playing has really helped to elevate his game. I saw all three of these guys at a recent showcase along with Hamilton. I got the chance to watch Hamilton work out on the mound. I do not think anyone would disagree with the fact that he is known for and his success has always came from being a "junk" pitcher with good control and the added benefit of being a lefty. I said up until a couple weeks ago I would agree with rawlingsfan on 2 of 3. But after watching Hamilton consistently hit 85 to 87 on the gun he now has the ability to overpower batters, take control, and dominate a game.

I believe he is a Junior and transferred to Hazard.

All of the kids mentioned are very talented. With the dramatic improvement that Creech has made behind the plate with pop times consistantly under 2.0, throwing 1.9's and 1.8's at the showcase, when you add that bat that's always been there, I put him at the top. I was impressed with Johnson and Hubbard as well. Hamilton, when he throws strikes and doesn't try to over throw, can be the best pitcher in the region. Cox is very good as well. This region has a very good crop of juniors and I would love to see them all on one team. I thought they all looked great at the showcase in Campton last week.Best of luck to all these young men. I look forward to watching these guys for the next two years.

Powell will have a strong senior class. Baker for Lee will be a senior and should have an impact. The Traylor kid from Lee will be a junior and if he continues to progress should also have an impact. He actually led their team in hitting last year. Estill shoul have a lot of good young talent as well.

Say What? Are you positive it was ran by a MLB scout? The only thing the Nationals have done around here has been the Area Code Team they put together, but the southeast team(which includes KY)tryouts were held in tennessee, and there wasn't anyone from KY on that team? What was the scouts name that did the camp?

I think the scouts name was McInturff. Very good showcase with kids from the Lexington area as well. Schools like Lafayette and LCA had kids here. From what I understand, it was a tryout-showcase to pick a Ky team to compete in the Stars and Stripes national tournament that will be held somewhere in Florida over Christmas break. I believe they are holding these all over the state.

Ok I found out what it was? It was a Nationals scout but it was not a sponsored event by the Nationals? That is where my confusion came? It was a scheduled tryout for 13U - 18U as well as 9U-12U for the Stars and Stripes foundation that is sponsoring a KY team, and their also going to be held in Paris, Morehead and Louisville, but I think some of those have already happened? I thought that you meant it was a Washington Nationals sponsored showcase? The scouts usually coach those teams for extra pay and plus they get to go to Florida the week after Christmas?
Yes you are also right about the area code team, and I think there is a kid from Henry Clay on that White Sox team?

I only knew that the White Sox Area Code included Ky because Creech recieved an invitation right after the East Coast Pro. He was unable to attend because he had a bout with tendonitis. It was a great day here and there was alot of good talent to watch. I would like to see more of these in our area.
