Koree Krupinski scored two of Central Hardin's three fourth-quarter touch*downs to lead the host Bruins to a stirring 28-19 comeback victory over Bullitt East on Friday night.

"We've been in some dogfights here the last couple of weeks," Central Hardin coach Mark Perry said. "I thought our defense picked us up there. Our offense sputtered at times, but what a way to build character in a football team by coming out in the fourth quarter like that."

The game started under a drizzle, and special teams gave Central Hardin (5-0) great field position throughout the first quarter. Stephen Lindsey returned the opening kickoff 34 yards to the Bullitt East 48, and the Bruins reached the 14 before the Chargers stopped them on downs.

A punt return set up the Bruins at the Chargers' 18, but Garrett Kasey missed a 27-yard field-goal attempt.

On the ensuing possession, Bullitt East (4-1) tried to punt from its 25, but the snap was bad and punter Pierce Kelly was gang tackled at the 12. Three plays later Krupinski hit Zack Helton from 8 yards out for a 7-0 lead with 0:56 left in the first quarter.

Special teams finally helped the visitors when Kelly's 60-yard punt pinned Central Hardin on its 10. That paid off as Krupinski fumbled and the Chargers recovered at the 21. A pass-interference penalty in the end zone kept Bullitt East on the field, and Chad Caldwell plunged in from the 1 to tie it with 4:21 remaining in the first half.

Caldwell scored his second touchdown with 50 seconds left in the third quarter, but the extra-point attempt failed and Bullitt East still led 13-7.

Lindsey tried to down the ensuing kickoff in the end zone, but the ball was ruled down at the 1. On the next play, Xavier Arnette fumbled at the 11 and Robert Hartley returned it for a touchdown with 13 seconds left in the quarter. The extra-point try was locked, and the Chargers entered the fourth quarter with a 19-7 advantage.

Central Hardin's offense finally found another gear. Krupinski completed three quick passes for 29 yards, then hit Tyler Long with a 33-yard strike to the 4. Four plays later Arnette plunged in from the 2, and Kasey's extra point cut it to 19-14.

Bullitt East was stopped on downs, and the Bruins went right back to work. Krupinski hit Lindsey with a 33-yard pass to the 11, and two plays later he hurdled a defender on the way to the end zone. Kasey's kick made it 21-19, and the Bruins weren't finished.

With Central Hardin milking the clock in the final minute, Krupinski took off on fourth-and-20 from the Bullitt East 35 and ran it in for the clinching score.

"You saw his competitive nature," Perry said of Krupinski. "Whether it was making some big throws or those two runs in the fourth quarter, he really came through, and that's a big win for us tonight."
