I knew P-burg could do it... Started out slow and finished strong and played great defense..

Nice win by the Blackcats. The defense really stepped it up tonight. Now time to get ready for the Jumpers. From 2-5 to playing in the regional championship. Never lose faith in this bunch of youngsters.

Huh ?!?

Actually, I thought the game the coaches called last night was very good. It would have been a mistake for Prestonsburg to throw into the teeth of the cover-2 the Ads played. Fortunately the power game found traction in the second half which opened up a few throws, supplying just enough offense to take and then run clock.

But more importantly the defense played MUCH better against the pro-set option offense of Danville in the second half (Danville was shutout after the break). The defense finally started playing their correct lane assignments. In the first half it started to look a little scary the way the Ads were getting chunks of yards over the right side - the middle LB was not stepping up to support the inside, finally inducing the outside LB to start pinching - and that opened the QB around end for a couple of good runs.

With everyone they lost and Anderson not playing, everyone thought Prestonsburg would not be very good at all. Probably some of their coaching staff's best work this year.

Best coaching job they've done since the '09 season with Burchett.

With Anderson, this team MIGHT be undefeated right now.

What I particularly ENJOYED in the this game was seeing Prestonsburg win with down and dirty power football. It's what had to be done against the Danville defense and the offense executed it.

Or at least 11-1... don't know if he'd been enough to turn the Pikeville game unless we'd have scored 1-2 more TD's in the first half. That would've made the difference 3-4 scores going to the 2nd half - it could have forced Pikeville away from its running game.

Pburg and the Bunnies will be an excellent game.

A special salute to Danville's Olyjawan Ford (#34).

Besides being a tough runner to bring down, it seemed I heard his name called on more than 1/2 defensive tackles !! He was all over the place and impressed the HECK out of me... !!

I think the single most important factor leading to the Blackcat win was the drive just before halftime to close it to a one score difference.

Just as important as the points was keeping Danville's offense off the field. At that point in the game the Admirals had started to roll over a tiring P-burg defense (huge time of possession advantage to Danville in the first half). After the half, Prestonsburg's defense adjusted well and contained the Danville running game.
