Somerset at Prestonsburg. Thoughts?

Good season for the Blackcats but it ends Friday night. Somerset.

Somerset is good don’t get me wrong ,but the heart and GRIT of those blackcats are the best I’ve ever seen. If the cats can get a turnover or 2 I can see them going to the state championship. If it doesn’t go there way what a great season from Wesley Hager and his squad! Give me BLACKCATS 28-21

Once Prestonsburg basically had the district locked up, I knew Somerset was likely going to be a team Pburg would face and now here we are.
The Blackcats are basically playing with house money at this point. These players and coaches should feel absolutely no pressure going into this game because everyone outside of Prestonsburg is going to pick against them. To me this means these boys can come out and play loose and leave it all out on the field and hope to have more points on the scoreboard at end of this game.
The Briar Jumpers have a very impressive running back, quarterback, and linemen, but what stands out most is their DL & LBs. 51 & 52 are monsters and they will punish you if given the opportunity. Somerset likes to run the ball in different ways, they’ll mix in the pass to keep teams from loading the box. They like the RPO. They have an excellent team and program.
Prestonsburg enters this game with 2 seniors that play, a sophomore quarterback, 2 freshman on the line, 1 sophomore also on the line, and 2 juniors. The Blackcats arguably have the youngest and smallest team physically left in the playoffs regardless of class. What the Blackcats lack in size though, they can make up in skill and speed. The linemen can move, Elliott is a state champion sprinter, Harris is fast, Kain Patton has come on as a big offensive weapon lately, and Holbrook is making plays at QB. Defensively, Prestonsburg is coming off a game where they played perfectly. Give up less than 100 yards total and held BL to 10 yards of offense in the second half. They’ll need to be just as prepared and play just as perfectly as they did this past Friday night in order to have a shot in this one. The margin for error for the Blackcats will be very slim. 1st & 2nd down will be huge for Pburg in a game like this. Can’t afford penalties or negative yards.
While Bracken Co is bigger than Pburg, the Blackcats have more speed and Hager will scheme up an offense that is a little more challenging to defend than the Polar Bears.
I know a lot are going to look at the Breathitt County game to gauge Prestonsburg (I would too if I was an outsider), but Pburg played horrible that night. A lot had to do with Breathitt’s size and physicality. But watching film back from that game, Pburg had opportunities, but that night the underclassmen played like underclassmen and the Blackcats made a lot of mistakes they hadn’t been making.
Going to be tough, but anything can happen. Briar Jumpers gotta make the 3 hour drive east, they’re going to be the favorites, therefore I hope they underestimate the Blackcats.
Hoping for a great game and awesome atmosphere.
Blackcats pull off the shocker and win, 28-21.
Hail Blackcats!!!

Prestonsburg is not even in the same league as teams like Beechwood, Lexington Christian, or Mayfield. I know that, and you know that.

Getting by Somerset and then Owensboro Catholic in back to back weeks is light years away for a team that was blown out at Breathitt County.

Somerset wins, but I think it will be a good, close game.

The amount of Pburg hate is unreal. When did this start? I feel like for a school that’s notoriously not been really good for long stretches at any sport, they’re the most hated program this side of I-75.

It’s not hate to speak the truth. Happy for those kids and that town for a successful season. They are just not ready for the top teams in that class and that’s ok. Enjoy the success and hope for a big upset at home this week. Somerset is favored and should be but that’s why they play the game.

It's not necessary hate. It is reality. Pburg is no where near ready to compete for a state title.

Don't worry about the hate. Haters are going to hate.
Take the hate as a compliment, when people hate that means you're doing something right, got things going for ya

I hope the Blackcats win, but it’s a long shot. Somerset are big and athletic upfront, and unfortunately a lot of Prestonsburg’s linemen are in walking casts or on crutches. The young men in the trenches now have stepped up but they are younger, smaller and less experienced. I would be safe in betting that the Somerset coaching staff are focusing on a way to control Prestonsburg’s speed, maybe even assigning spies to each running back.
The good news for the Blackcats is it’s a long bus ride from Somerset. And perhaps they are buying into the “soft schedule “ stuff about Prestonsburg.
Always pulling for the Blackcats.

They may be light years away like you said, but this year they're just 2 games away.

Interested to see the outcome of this one.
Common Opponents and Results:
Leslie Co - It was P-burg's 1st game of the season and they won 22-19; It was Somerset's 9th game of the season and they won 55-13
Breathitt Co - It was P-burg's 10 game of the season and they lost 6-35; It was Somerset's 7th game of the season and they won 42-21
I like Somerset's SOS (Strength of Schedule) better. So based on that alone I am going to pick Somerset - 42-14

Hate to burst your rainbow bubble but if Pburg is fortunate enough to get by Somerset, there is no way in hell they are beating OCath so that "state championship" appearance is a pipe dream.

Prestonsburg is only 2 games away from a state championship. And i will be pulling for them this Friday. However I think Somerset advances on to the semis with a decisive 38-18 win over the black cats.

I think PBurg shocks the state this weekend. Hager has pburg playing some good football and believe this one is going to come down to the wire.
Future is bright in Pburg and think they will run the district the next few years.
