Did Walking Tall Buford Pusser Kill His Wife?
#1
I saw that officials in Tennessee are now stating that they believe Buford killed his own wife.  What do you all believe?

Wow!! What a legacy breaker!!!

I think she was shot multiple times, but Buford was as well or at least he was in the movie.   Tongue

Saw this story yesterday. I've heard for a long time that this guy was not the great guy that many have portrayed him to be. Apparently, the evidence is leading investigators to believe that Pusser is a real p#ssy.

Bad guy is what it feels like to me.

Hasn't it come out recently that he was actually drunk in his fatal crash?

I have no idea whether Pusser killed his wife, but I don't believe that it is appropriate to hold a press conference after his death and make accusations against him against which he cannot defend. If the investigation concluded that he probably killed his wife, then quietly close the case and inform the victim's family of the findings.

I hate political grandstanding against suspects who are not available to defend themselves against the charges. Investigators failed to do their job while Pusser was alive. It is too late to claim a win for political gain. Unless the politicians wanted to publicly apologize for their collective failure to bring Mrs. Pusser's killer to justice, they should have kept silent. They should not have spiked the ball in front of a microphone and camera.

IMO, if there is overwhelming evidence that Buford is guilty, yes, the system failed Mrs, Pusser, but Buford deserves everything he has coming.

Buford Pusser has been dead for 51 years. Beating up on a rotting corpse to score political points benefits nobody but the shameless politicians who arranged the press conference. They did what we have come to expect of our elected public officials.

I understand your viewpoint.  But the way I see it is that IF he was involved in her murder, he has unjust legacy that should be taken away.  Almost anyone would love to leave behind a legacy that he has.  If he did what they say, it should be corrected.

The record should definitely be corrected and the case closed. That could have been done without a big public announcement in what was a political fundraising event, IMO. Pusser's legacy is shot, with or without the government's belated efforts to destroy that legacy.
