Way back in 1980, Billy Hicks applied for the head coaching position at Jenkins High School. Hicks was a finalist for the job but was not selected. Hicks went on to have a great career at Evarts, Harlan, Corbin, and now Scott County. He has over 700 wins, 18 district championships, 8 regional championships, 5 Sweet 16 final fours, and 2 state championships. I can remember Hicks really wanted the job at Jenkins and was very excited about the possibilities. Do you think Hicks could have developed Jenkins into a mountain power as he did at Evarts, Harlan, and Corbin? I wonder if the Jenkins people ever think "what if"?

You never know! It is possible he could have had success there. But Jenkins is a small school so it would have been a little more difficult. Anyway, we'll never know though because they didn't hire him!

I think if he would have been the coach there, he could have stopped current players from Valley like Jonah, Jacob, Elisha, Kirby and Logan from going to Valley.

I don't know if Jenkins would have been a power house, but I definitely think Hicks would have been successful there.

Trust me, Jenkins would have at least 2 or 3 regional championships in that time period, they have produced lots of talent. They had had Bryan Johnson and Johnny Ray Williams on the same team, that certainly should have been a team competing for a regional title. They have had plenty of talent in the last decade as well such as Micah Oden. That school would have been a power...
