Yes, it was a bogus call and I think even Phelps fans would agree on that.
Nevertheless, good luck Hornets against Hazard. Keep your heads up South Floyd.

Yeah, I haven't said it yet, but Congrats Phelps.....

Yep, I listened to the entire fourth quarter on the way home from the Belfry/ER game Friday night..... I heard all of it!! Was just curious about penalties...

I listened to this game and was disturbed by the fact that the radio announcers appeared very biased. I don't know if the call was bogus or not, but I became disgusted after listening to quite a bit of it!
Congrats Phelps on the win, Congrats South Floyd for such a hard-fought game!

Congrats Hornets....I am glad to see they are playoff bound. First time since I played from them in 99. GO PHELPS!

Pretty sure they played a playoff game in '05 in Somerset.... at least I think they traveled to Somerset!

LOL...You weren't there and became disgusted because the radio announcers were biased about a call that you didn't see? Do you think the radio announcers were wrong about the call? Nobody in this thread seems to disagree, even those from Phelps.
I don't think the announcers were biased because they gave a ton a credit to the Hornets; not only for winning the game on the road through a blackout, but by converting a 4th and 3 on the final drive that could've ended their season. Phelps displayed a lot of guts by not wilting on the final drive, especially after the blackout. Steven Dotson kept the team going, Page made good decisions and Smith had a great all-around game.
Sometimes I think certain radio listeners suffer from selective hearing. :flush:
And "no" the game will not be on TV because for some reason Intermountain Cable thought it best to cover the Paintsville/Pikeville laugher as if that game would've really meant something in the grand scheme of things. Intermountain Cable hasn't covered a football game at Hi Hat in over 2 years and when's the last time they've been to Phelps? Who loves you now huh? A couple of biased radio announcers I guess.

I was at the game, and talked to the refs after the game, they told me they called the Florida and Arkansas game last week. J/K
I didnt agree with some of the calls that were against SF....The ruffing call and also the false start that was called when the runningback went into motion. But I also didnt agree with the unsportsmanlike calls against both teams...These refs new this was going to be an intense game and should have took better control.
Above all of this, I just didnt like the play calling of SF, offensively and defensively.
Phelps coach made some good calls on the last drive to get down field.
Congrats Hornets, good luck.

Thank You Very Much JJ, I would like to know when the last time IMC was at Hi Hat, Betsy Layne, Allen Central? They seem to want to follow instead of lead. All teams should be equal with tv and newspaper time but we all know IMC and the FCT is biased. Thats why i rank IMC and the FCT the lowest on my list. They never give the county schools sports an even report. If you want to know the sports news then get u a Big Sandy News paper. They cover all schools in the region good or bad ratings and reviews. I will bet if anyone sees an article about SF in the FCT that it will only be 1 pic and will read...Phelps takes the 4th spot playoff. Any bets???? OH WELL i guess u all know how i feel about IMC and FCT...LOL...:devilflam. Good Luck Phelps v Hazard you will need it. Keep digging SF. :blabbermo

I didn't really say all i wanted to in the last post...but i feel some stress gone...LOL. I would just like to see all county schools get some respect from the county reporting peps. Thanks Jamey u seem to be the only one to do an unbiased job, even tho we disagree at times. LOL

 Nice post!!! AND.. I do agree with you that "certain" teams get the coverage..... Last week, Belfry played ER..... do you think they had any coverage of that one? Nope, no newspaper coverage, no TV crew there either... BUT... We did have a radio spot..... When Belfry plays "certain" teams.... they get the coverage but IMHO, there is no difference in listening to a Belfry/ER game than there was in Belfry/Pikeville.
NOT changing the thread or trying to get off topic just wanted to use that example to show that I DO agree with you on your points made about coverage!!!

This radio listener suffers from nothing but insanity at times, thank you very much! I listened to the biggest part of this game, turned it off in the fourth quarter to have dinner with the family, and, admitted I wasn't there, don't know about that call. Did not say that the announcing regarding that call bothered me when, I have no doubt you were correct. What bothered me, JJ, is that it seemed to be a rather boisterous radio crew when SF was doing things right, but not nearly as enthusiastic about the hornets. I, personally, prefer to listen when it seems as if the people calling the game are more objective, which is almost impossible because we, as human beings, always feel biased toward our own home teams!
I wasn't trying to get under your skin, but apparently did. Simply voicing my opinion. I understand the one-sided enthusiasm when local teams are playing teams from down state or another area, I just feel when we are talking local versus local, it needs to be a little more even-keeled. Only my opinion.

It's all good .... though.....
I was right there with you Phs1986 during the baseball tourney.... I like listening to you JJ, I think you are knowledgeable about sports, but, in a nutshell, I just wish you showed Pike County some love every now and then LOL

 Cool. You did get under my skin though! LOL.
Anyone that knows me or has anything to do with BGR knows where I'm from and when you're assigned to do a game like Phelps/South Floyd, trust me I was doing my best to be fair both ways. I will say this in my defense: the game was sold to Floyd County sponsors and was featured as the "Floyd County Game of the Week."
Yes, I was happy to see South Floyd get it going in the right direction when they were driving and making some progress, but I was just as excited to see Phelps storm back and win the game.
We picked that game because it meant something. We at EKB have worked hard to spread ourselves out to do more football games this year and cover as many teams as possible. Trust me, we know there are teams that are left out from week-to-week, hopefully we'll be able to better serve them in the future as well. Covering the games is fun and entertaining and all of us at Peachorchard appreciate you listening...Even when you disagree and that's what we like!

I think EKB does a phenomenal job covering football in the mountains and you will find nobody who is a bigger supporter of the sports crew up there than me and my family.... I think you are all great and love that we are getting to hear more games on more stations every Friday night!

Well Phelps couldn't help the fact that the lights went out. I'm positive we had nothing to do with that lol and if you watched the game im positive the refs didnt give us any calls. It was a fair game. We came out on top and Page made an awesome play to Smith to win it all for us!!!!!! PLAYOFF BOUND
