Bell County
#1
So does anyone know who the new baseball coach is at Bell County?
#2
ken johnson
#3
o yea?? where did he come from?
#4
I think he played at and/or coached at Alice Lloyd? Could be wrong.
#5
he played at Alice Loyd , coached at allen central....and he was the ast. coach when bell won the 13th region
#6
I'm not sure that he was an assistant when they won the region. I've been told that when John Smith came on, Johnson asked to help and Smith said thanks but no thanks.

Nevertheless, he will have his hands full the next few years.

According to KHSAA, he coached at Allen Central from 2005-2007 and won 57 games in 3 seasons and the district championship all 3 years. He was also the assistant on the 2008 Bell County team that won the region championship.

I don't know why the previous coach would have said thanks, but no thanks to him.

While under Johnson, Allen Central did decent:

2005 (18-14)- They beat a 3-22 South Floyd team for the district championship/

2006 (23-11)- They beat a 13-15 Prestonburg team for the district title.

3007 (16-18)- They beat a 16-17 Prestonburg team for district.

They did win their district each year, but they may have also played in the weakest district in baseball history. This would also explain a small inflation in their overall record.

I don't have anything against Johnson at all. He may be a great coach. But considering Allen Central won their region just two years before he got there shows that their talent was probably already in place.

I'm betting Bell gets swept by MHS and HC.

i am betting they do not get swept by m-boro and harlan co.
#11
They did last year. And since then, they've lost several starters and a great coach.

If our schedule had not been weaken we would not win a game. Now I see us winning 5-6 games. Due to lack of interest from those that are supposed to care (adminisatration) this program has fallen apart. We trade a very good head coach for an assistant football coach...priorities not in this program. We have kids quitting and not all came out that were here last year. Not a good sign for things to come. So with the shape we are in, HC and Mboro will name the scores both times we play.

how they looking

If John Smith had stayed, they would have a chance at winning more ballgames. As it stands, it just simply won't happen. For example, a loss against Jackson County should never happen. Ever.

bell is better than people give them credit for....they played a good jackson county team an was tied 2-2 in the sixth an jackson got in a good place an put up 2 more runs, an smith is a good guy good coach but just because he came from m-boro does not mean hes a god...he came to bell with the same team that won region the year b4 that, they only lost one starter an got blew out by SL in the region championship so if he was the coach you say he is he would have won that 13th region title again!

Bell 3 Union County TN. 13 Not a good showing. I worry that we may not have 6 wins. Lynn Camp coming up will help. Our baseball should have HAD the attention of the other sports.

Give them some time. I think they will get better as the season goes on. The schedule looks a little tougher than last year's schedule, but overall, not a strong schedule. However, you do not want to schedule a strong schedule and kill the team's morale. It looks like a good mix. I believe this team and coach will build a good program. The middle school program looks to be getting better and have started real well from what I have heard. One of the parents told me they had practiced with the varsity for several weeks until season started. I would be willing to bet that as the season goes along you will see a much better baseball team develop that will get 12-13 wins and may even beat a couple of teams you may not expect. If not, I'll eat crow, but I believe you will see it happen.

I would disagree with that. If that were the case, then what is your explanation about last season? However, I think he was a decent coach that knew baseball. But they didn't even play Jackson Co. last year - and I believe Jackson nearly pulled off a big win against Clay Co. in the district last year. They ain't half bad. And they have a very good pitcher in the Duncan kid. They have a good freshman pitcher as well that played middle school baseball last year. While they are not anywhere near the top 5, with the Duncan kid on the hill, they can compete with anybody in the region.

I can tell you this, John Smith is the worst coach that has been at Whitley since baseball has been played here. Great field man, he needs to go into lawn care business.
#20
i agree with your statement on smith bein a excellent feild kepper but he does need some credit as a coach
#21
First of all, that isn't saying to much. Whitley hasn't been very good in anything, under achieveing in most sports. You need to get off that bucket and put your name on the line and see what you can do. Easy to sit there and throw baseballs at HEAD COACHES.......! We all know who your boy is, maybe he will come down there and be an assistant for you.
