Impact on KY HS recruiting by Louisville and WKU coaching changes.
#1
Given the Petrino move to UL from WKU, as well as a new opening at WKU, how will this impact KY HS recruiting? I suspect at least one QB from NKy is very exited about this turn of events!

My son had a phenomenal camp at UL, but could not get the time of day from Charlie Strong's staff. So much so, we had no plans on going back. But with this change , UL is back in play.

I understand Fant from BG has reaffirmed his commitment to WKU, but I imagine that will be tested. Is has to be hard to commit to a program that is a clear stepping stone.

I would give anything to have gotten Petrino at UK.
We screwed this one up first.
He will own UK.

I saw KY against Fl and AL this year. They have a MAC roster playing an SEC schedule. Saban could not win with this roster. Let the recruiting happen and give it time. I would have reservations sending my son to play for Petrino. Not only do the character issues concern me, but he will likely jump to the next job even after mild success.

It is up in the air with Petrino in regards to recruiting Kentucky.

In his previous tenure at UL he was far from making his in-state schools a recruiting focus. He would go after the top players in Jefferson County and throw his hat in the ring for the elite prospects from around the State..but when it came to the mid-level 3* guys he really didn't show them the time of day. I remember well the story of the Durham kid at Rockcastle who committed to UL and then basically couldn't even talk to a coach as they recruited over him.

Now with that said, Petrino's time at WKU has been 100% about locking in those mid-level KY guys and that has been his primary focus as a recruiter. Will this transition to UL where he has the resources to recruit nationally? I doubt it..but you never know.

The issue with Petrino is as stated his moral compass. We all know he is a habitual job jumper and has the loyalty of a common tick (he'l stick with you until he drains you dry and sees a bigger butter blood supply)... but that's the tip of the iceberg. In all the places he has left he has did it with animosity. When he left UL it was abrupt and after "secret meetings". When he left the Falcons he literally left paper messages and got the heck out of dodge. When he left Arkansas it was after a scandal and tons of lies. Now as he leaves WKU the word is he basically went radio silence on the AD for 3 or 4 days... the team who gave him a chance and not even the common courtesy to tell them what he was doing.

Petrino's potential as a coach now at UL and his upside is nothing near what it was when he first had the job. The book is out on him and bridges have been burned. Never underestimate the power of negative recruiting and you can bet every prospect he sits with will have four programs insisting that if he commits to UL in 2 years he will be playing for a coach with a whole new scheme after being left high and dry.

Petrino knows how to coach..there is absolutely no denying that. But... this is just another strike against the moral character of Petrino and UL's program.

Joker Phillips took a program Brooks built to a quality program and single handily set them back 5-6 years in the span of 2 seasons. Any success Joker enjoyed could be directly attributed to Danny Trevathan and Randall Cobb.

UK is still 2 years away,, but with the level of recruiting they have seen they will regain form as a 7 win program as long as Stoops and company know how to coach them up. I would love to see UK make a splash Nationally...but the best case scenario for Kentucky is to emulate Missouri. Consistently be a lower tier bowl contender, with a season every 4 years or so where they build and compete with any team in the SEC.

UK will never go toe to toe with the SEC heavyweights every season. No matter how good Stoops and his staff recruit UK simply doesnt have the cache to match up with the Top 10 classes these other schools pull every single year. Where Kentucky can make up ground is with the loss of early NFL entrants, suspensions, and coaching turnover that comes with the high expectations of high talent pool.

The guy is a good coach, but a crappy person and a crappy employee. Hopefully he's changed, but I don't think so. I have no idea why any mother would want her son to play for the guy. It's a nice message Louisville is sending to kids, recruits, and fans that look up to them.

As far as recruiting goes, I think it "Hurtts" the $tate. ($ee what I did there? LOL.) The majority of our guys aren't 3-5 stars. Petrino had to recruit lower quality players at WKU, but he doesn't so much at Louisville. Hurtt will pay for the folks out of state first.

It'll honestly depend on Stoops effort. He'll solidify his grasp on the commonwealth if he picks up Elam over Alabama. I just don't see Petrino competing anymore. Reports are Jeff Brohm will be the new WKU coach, I don't see that playing any sort of impact.

Masai Whyte tweeted yesterday that he will remain committed to Western Kentucky.

It would be great for East Ky kids to play at the next level. The only problem is we have so many kids that go to college and dont stick it out and either come back home or do nothing. When kids graduate that play football i dont want to see them at the fields on Friday night during football season. They should be in college working hard whether playing or just going to school.
