Waiting on Arthur
#1
Today will be a new experience for my family and I, we will experience our first hurricane. Hurricane Arthur is supposed to visit the area this evening as a category 2 hurricane. I live about 10 miles from the coast, we are predicted to have 65-75 mph sustained winds with gusts over 90 mph. However the coast, just a few miles away, is supposed to get 85-105 mph sustained winds. Could be an interesting evening. Oddly, I am kind of excited, I have always been fascinated with hurricanes and tornados.

The OBX is supposed to take a direct hit overnight. Cape Hatteras has a mandatory evacuation order.

From the looks of things, Arthur has arrived in Eastern NC. Winds are really starting to pick up and it is starting rain. So far it is nothing like I expected a hurricane to be. According to the forecast the worst is yet to come.

Most people are, right up to the point when the thing is in their back yard.

We made it through. I was expecting something totally different. The wind and rain came in "bands" meaning it would be really rainy and windy for anywhere between 10-30 minutes then it would stop like someone turned a switch. We got nowhere close to the winds that were predicted. The eye was about 30 miles off the coast in the county I live in. I was told yesterday afternoon to expect a really long tornado. I have been through much worse storms in Kentucky. Getting ready to head to the beach to check out damages and the wife want to find new shells stirred up by the storm.
