Top Offense's 1A for 2007
#1
Who do you think they will be?
#2
Well I think the top offense's will be Pikeville, Hazard, Beechwood, and LCA- their QB and RB are only sophomores though.
#3
hazard
#4
Pikeville.

Hazard or Pikeville---both explosive when in control of the ball!

Hazard, yes. When they are clicking on all cylinders, with that speed and a kid with a good arm at qb, IF they develop some linemen to take the place of the good kids they lost they can be explosive. Don't forget though, even in their biggest game -- the upset of Pikeville in playoffs, their offense still wasn't exactly "explosive" (however, they did just enough to win). The big question: can they develop a good RUNNING game?

Pikeville...well, a lot remains to be seen. It was obvious last year that they had to go to a "freak" offense when they lost their QB -- one that took advantage of their good running backs, a very strong OL, and required little from their QB. But it was also obvious that if a defense sold out to stack the line, their inexperience at qb made the passing game, well, let's say, 'not great.' It's kind of the opposite of Hazard: can they develop a good PASSING game to complement what could be a great run-game?

Lynn Camp -- heard a lot last year about how good Roskopf was...and how he had no supporting cast. I'd say they'll be working all off-season on developing a full-package offensively, or expect the same as last year from the Cats.

LCA will truly have an explosive offense -- I get to be in Central Ky. some with my work and I got to see them a couple of times last year. By the END of the year they looked a LOT better than at the beginning. They run a pass-first, Mumme-style offense and had a Freshman starting at QB who just got better and better as the year went on.

Raceland has a lot to replace, beginning with a college-ability QB. But their line is well-coached and they seem to be confident right now. Might be more run-oriented next year, but expect them to be sound. Sound enough to beat an explosive LCA -- I don't know.

Beechwood -- they're not what they used to be. Not nearly the same numbers on the team as in the past. Not nearly the same OL size as in the past. If they have an All-State caliber RB, they'll be fine. If not, their offense doesn't do enough to adapt and can get shut down.

Mayfield -- no idea. They were really up and down this year as a team, but I didn't get much about their OFFENSE specifically. Count on them being well-coached though and getting the most out of their players.

Panther1 when you said " It's kind of the opposite of Hazard: can they develop a good PASSING game to complement what could be a great run-game?" did you mean can they develop a good running game to complement the passing game , because this year they showed a pretty good passing game , and not so good running game

Maybe you mis-read my original intent: I was saying HAZARD had a better passing game and needed to develop a better run-game; and that Pikeville was the opposite -- had a better running game and needed to develop a better passing game.

ok got cha , good point by the way

There are some lineman to replace the seniors who graduated....#62Austin Maggard(JR), #50Aaron Moore(SPH), John Howard(JR) to name a few. John Howard started center as a sophomore for us at only 6'1" 180, and Austin Maggard started Dtackle as a sophomore. Both these players have good game expirience as lineman, and will be the oldest lineman for hazard next season.

Pikeville-any offense with Triple H(Harmon and the Honaker twins) in the backfield cant be bad.

...true, they were impressive at times last year. But if a defense sells out to stack the box against a run-only offense, great backs still can't get it all done by themselves. Maybe back when Pikeville had the best linemen coming from all over the county...but that isn't the case anymore.

And, I wouldn't call the offense "bad" (over 300yds. offense vs. 4A semifinalist Henry Clay, over 350yds. rushing vs. Belfry, nearly 400yds. total offense vs. Prestonsburg), it just didn't have all it needed to be effective when teams decided to put 9 playing the run (namely, a passer that could keep defenses honest).

This "freak offense" they had to go to wast the offense they ran in the Pike Co bowl against Henry Clay. So unless they get a different style it might be no go on the carpet!

Tim Honaker will have a year of experience at QB and I thought he didnt do bad job last year given the circumstances. Give Tim through spring drills and summer practice and you will see improvement.

I dont think Pikeville will have the best offense in 07. Not even close, with all of the GOOD lineman graduating and as everyone says running a "freak offense", I dont think they can pull it together enough for next season. They have hardly have a passing game, but a decent run game led by Harmon and the Honaker twins. If they could come up with an offensive scheme like the option or something that would work---yes they would be unbeatable. But as of NOW, I dont think they will have a better offense than LCA, Mayfield, Raceland, Beechwood, Hazard, or any of the powerhouses left in the 1A games next year. Sry Pikeville.

Excuse me but since when is Hazard a "Powerhouse". They are good but I wouldnt list them as a an elite team just yet.

Since when is Pikeville a powerhouse??? U all didnt beat us last year.

South Floyd will be a offensive force to reckon with.

#22
