Watched Henry County play Spencer County the other night, but Henry started the JV players and sat the Varsity to avoid injuries before the playoffs. Spencer had no trouble winning. The game had no bearing on playoff position, so my question is, do you all agree with the coach's decision to not risk injury and practically forfeit this game? I'm torn on the matter. I heard a lot of grumbling from the parents.

I've never agreed with it. But that's just my opinion. KHSAA should make sure teams are playing district games the final week of the season. Again, just my opinion.

I don't like the strategy of resting players before the playoffs but I don't see any good ways to prevent it. Even if the last games of the regular season were district games, many of the district seeds are already set and in other cases the games are such mismatches that some teams would still play key players sparingly.
If coaches want to rest starters in the last regular season game, then I think that the decision and consequences should be theirs. It would be impossible for the KHSAA to fairly enforce a rule against this practice. A rule against it would just create more controversy.

Why not just make your open date the last week of the regular season.

But, how much complaining would you do if several key players got hurt in that meaningless game. It's not a practice we use but, I see how it benefits the team.

If they are injured, rest them, if not, play them. Rest is overrated. They have a whole year to recuperate.

I think last game of year is a district game so players play! Hate this end of the year crap.

Always liked Ashlands schedule of having a bye week 10 and week 9 being the JC game so you kill 2 birds with 1 stone but this season it changed and played a meaningless game week 10 had the bye week 0. Liked the old schedule better. Let your players rest as a group last week of season and start getting ready for the playoffs.

If kids get to play the game they love, I'm for it. I suppose that means I support either decision.
They call that guy a HEAD coach for a reason. It's HIS decision. The rest of us are simply fans.

Absolutely I agree 100%, give the kids that have started all year a break if it doesn't matter. They put themselves in the position to earn that off week, it's a long season but the real season starts now so let them off :betterthanexpected:

It doesn't hurt to rest the starters. That gives the other kids who work hard everyday in practice to get better and builds for the future.
