I didnât think about this early on but, the last time Mayfield lost to McCracken Co was 2015 and we went on to win the remainder of our games and our 12th state title. I did some further checking and there is even more similarities. I suspect the schedule this years team has played to this point is slightly better than the competition the 15 Cards played in the first 5 games. However, each of these teams scored a total of 193 points in the first 5 games. Our defense this year has given up 116 points versus the 65 given up in 15 to this point. However, I do think this years team has played a slightly better schedule. So, I think we should be okay.

Sounds like they are very similar on offense. But it looks like the 2015 team had only given up 65 points through 5 games while this year's version has surrendered 116.

This years version of the Cardinals may have the best skill players they've had as far as overall depth of talent. Add that to a 3 year starting QB that can throw it all over the field and this team looks like a handful for anyone. The problem this team has is on the other side of the ball. They have very little size in the trenches and big, physical teams have given them some trouble. I expected better secondary play as well. They have good speed and athleticism there, but, they have struggled to keep receivers in front of them. You can make adjustments and offset for one or the other, but, when both areas have been suspect, it's tough to adjust. I'm sure Coach Morris and the staff are addressing these very things as we speak and they'll still be one of the favorites to win it all when all's said and done. I've seen some past years teams look very mediocre on one side of the ball or the other, then about 7 or 8 games in, they find it and start playing the way they're capable of and look completely different. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if this team does the same..

I don't think this year's team physically compares to the 2015 team. DL is too small. Your thumper......just doesn't thump enough. Who's the heart of that D ? Who is the "HURT" type kid punishing kids for being on the field? I want you to win as much as any non-mayfield high school football fan. But I don't see it in this defensive line. I said it before Friday 13th and I hope I'm entirely wrong.

That was that team and this is this team. Nothing the 15 team did will having any bearing on anything.
